Yes I went by last night an was there for about two hours. Most of the games were in very bad condition, just ate up with termites. The two EM pins were completely hollowed out by termites. Given that I had a 14' metal trailer on the truck it would of been to dangerous to even try to take them on the interstate.
So these games have been in storage for more than 25 years and time was rough but there is a silver lining.
The Pac man plus did not come on but its bottom section, especially around the hinge was eaten up and the cab is almost falling in on itself. The inside has trash and papers filling it but the parts are clean and don't show much usage.
Once I get a chance I'll go though it am see/ test what is good.
The termites left the Take 5 pong style table top game completely alone?? I have no idea why. I didnt test it as it wasn't really factored into the price.
The vegas cocktail pinball was eaten up and it still intact, even able to light up but I'm not sure who out there is looking for parts to this.. Maybe it can be saved but again I'll have to get it into the shop and under good light.
So the big boy that everyone had their sights on.. How is the Asteroids Deluxe after spending 25-30 years in storage??
The coin counter shows about 19k in plays so I don't know how long it was in the wild..
The bottom of the cab has swelling from moisture, but it never got to the power or AR board. Had to drill the locks and what I found was pretty amazing.
The boards are pristine, no operator has ever touched this, the edge connector looks like it was never pulled out. All caps on the pcb and AR look brand new.. So I clean some of the trash put of the bottom and tell the owner that I can't pay the 250, given that he wasn't honest about the damage, the termites in the pins..
I offer him 200 for the AD and the rest of the games, I figure that the parts off the Super PAC would cover 150 or so
and the take five could go for 25-50.
But only would I pay is if the AD powers up an works. At this point I wanted to walk away. I figured it was one in million that this vector machine would still work.
We flip the switch and after about 10 seconds the xy fires up.. And it's beautiful, breathtaking how bright and crisp it was. I, the guy and my father in law all start freaking out.. I immediately shut the machine down, remove the PCB which still had the little ball plastic zip ties (from the Atari factory?) running from the perfect wiring harness to the pcb, which is beautiful. I rush it over to the truck, wrap it in a towel and put it in the back seat. The AD is wrapped in blankets and loaded onto the trailer.
I can't believe after all that time it fires up, coins up, plays sound and works.
The parts inside are pristine, and I don't know why the termites left the AD alone, is it special wood, did the moisture swelling on the bottom turn them off?
more pics to come. .. What an adventure, and it's only my second game run.. So in 8 weeks I went from 1 game to 6 even if some will just be for parts..
