I just got a new flyback for my WGu2000.

Is it a pretty simple swap?
Looks like 10 solder points and running the red and white wires to the proper spot.

Anything to look out for?

Also, I am thinking of pulling the chassis while the tube is left in the cab. I don't want to pull this big bastard out if I don't have to. What are the chances of pulling this off?
:O)

Can't recall on the U2000, but I know some WG chassis' of that era had a wire that is soldered to the chassis, goes through a space in the flyback, then is soldered back to the board. If yours has that, unsolder one side, pull it through, and pull the flyback. Make sure to put it back the same way when putting the new one in.

Other than that it should be pretty easy, assuming you can figure out how to diconnect/reattach it on the neckboard...

I'm a complete novice and replacing a flyback was super easy. The last two cap kits I've done I've left the monitor bolted to the cage and just removed the chassis... of course I'm not familiar with yours, so I don't know how easy this may be.

I pulled the chassis and I can anticipate that it seems to be a bitch to get the wire unattatched from the neck board. Is there a trick to this?

Also, the flyback does not look the same as the one that is currently in there, is this a problem? I thought I identified my chassis by looking at bob roberts web page and several other places as a WGu2000. It does happen to say wg2520 on it. I swear it looks the same as the u2000 in several pictures I have seen.

The wire to the neck board is pinched in the white connector. It's on a hinge. Just find the side that has a plastic snap and unhook it. The wire should almost fall out.

Also, I notice that the flyback comes out a little easier if I trim the leads down as close to the PCB. The solder doesn't have as much real estate to attach to.

I came across a monitor chassis the other day that i could NOT get into the socket to get the focus wire out. it's like the plastic was molded around the wire...

I looked at Bob's monitor ID page to see the U2000 neck board. It looked like it should, but It wasn't the best of pictures.

I notice nobody commented on the flyback looking different than the one currently in there.
no worries huh? as long as it fits?

I don't know the answer to that one, but I don't see any pics. Did you get the wire out?

I am not going that far tonite.
I love the insight you gave me though. tomorrow night I imagine. Though I will post pics of my chassis, flyback and the new flyback before I get started.
thanks

The flyback I replaced looked nothing like the one that was in the unit. Sometimes between different manufacturers the flyback will look different. My monitor was different than yours but Ken Layton here assured me that it would work so that was good enough for me.

If a repair guru confirms it, you're sure you have the correct chassis and monitor number, and the pins match- I'd go for it. You can always email Bob just to be sure. I've had several questions about things he's sent me- and he always answered within the day.

I was pretty confident of that, but appreciate the confirmation.
It's a go on the flyback then.

Ok, well, success!!!!!

new flyback, and I swear the monitor looks better than EVER!!!

Not only did it get rid of the little sparks, and flipping screen, it seems like the monitor is more crisp and more vibrant color. Maybe it's because it wasn't adjusted well enough before who knows.
but anyhow, it's all good.

now you need to get a rejuventor and make it look supa fantastic. clean out those shorts and all the other stuff it does, it will look even better.
