Bought a non-working PCB from a fellow KLOV'r and am working on getting it up and running.

I reseated all chips and cleaned one chip with really dirty legs.

The game turns on and goes through a few screens in attract mode - high score and the HYPERSPORTS logo screen, but the logo screen has some garbled graphics. The only game it shows in attract mode is weight lifting. With the music attract mode option on, there is no music.

After pressing start, I can enter initials and then sometimes the swimming will start up. As soon as the gun goes off or you foul (push the buttons early) the screen suddenly shows all "H"s and then a message comes up that says "QUALIFY IS DIP SW". It then resets and the attract mode comes back.

Any ideas?

Clean the inside & outside surfaces of every chip in a socket... inspect each socket with a bright light and a magnifying glass. Look for corrosion and replace any bad sockets.

Those boards have horrible socket problems.

Also, tap the board interconnect cable roughly to see if it's intermittent.

Check your +5. Increase to 5.2 - 5.4 and see if it makes a difference.
My boardset puked up all over itself with the voltage set to +5. Making the mentioned increase in voltage has made it rock solid ever since.

i have a track and field that likes to reset or black out after a bit of play.

I have been adjusting the voltage on my switcher. mine now plays for about an hour.

per the service manual it says to adjust the board voltage to 4.9 to 5.1 at the edge connector.

remember the caps on the board may be original like mine, and may need a bit more voltage to work.

i thinks mine is set to around 5.2
