I pulled out a box marked Hyperdrive and it has the main logic board, a little board that looks like the sound board and another pcb that has the network jack on it. It is about 4" square and what looks strange is that on the bottom is a long flat plug with about 30 pins on it and it looks like it press fits into another board or something else. I don't have any other boards in the box, am I missing something to make this game work? Is that only for linking and can I get away without using it for a single player? and does anyone know of a download link for the manual?
Thanks very much,
Russ

Hopefully the attached pic helps shed some light. I'm guessing what's missing in your box of stuff is the steering driver board.

missing pcb

Yes, that one is missing but I have a number of steering boards from other games. Please tell me I can use one of those? If you happen to have the board set can you check the numbers on the driver pcb? And thank you for the picture.

Now I see where that little pcb goes. It bolts right onto the main logic pcb. There is a strange little connector on it and I didn't notice the long row of contacts on the main logic pcb. Thankfully that part worked out.

I am thinking of swapping this into a Hydro Thunder cabinet until I can hopefully repair the Hydro. I happen to have the steering wheel. I was thinking of putting the gas and brake on the Hydro throttle and boost control section of the game. I don't want to have to cut out brake and gas on the cabinet. And I want to do this on location.
Thanks very much,
Russ

Sorry, I do not have this boardset - Midway did however sell upgrade kits to turn a Hyper Drive into California Speed (as they both used the same Midway Seattle hardware) so chances are the steering board for a California Speed is the same exact part.

Doing a little more research it sounds like the same board was also used in Hydro Thunder and possibly the Cruis'n games.

Hope this helps.
