Hyperball Help Needed - It's Possessed I tell Ya!!!

Hey all,

I know it's not considered a pinball but I thought I'd post this here and in the tech section. I Picked up a Hyperball today and it works nicely except for the elevator feeder motor. I'm not getting anything from it. I checked all the fuses I could find and all looks well. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I put balls in the trough manually and my kids definitely love shooting the targets and such lol. It sounds like a mix of Defender and Robotron which is very cool. It's in pretty nice shape save for the dust I had to clean. I just need to get that motor moving balls up. Any and all help appreciated.

I'm getting varying readings when it's supposed to be turning but it is getting power. So far the fuses look fine. If they are the two at the bottom of the cabinet they look good.

OK, I sacrificed a power cord yesterday and determined yes, the motor does work. I replaced the F1 fuse which looked good, but apparently wasn't and it worked.....for a minute. I had thought it just stopped but after hooking up my makeshift power cord again it did work, it was just jammed. So hooked up game wires again and no go ugggh. Came back today and modified my wiring with alligator clips for easy access and it's back!! Got a conference call to get on now but will try it all again later. I know it's going to jam again. Any thoughts on smoothing up the ball tray down there? It does get clogged pretty quick.

well it works but it's got a mind of it's own. Sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn't (usually when I have at all together lol). fuses are in tact though. Frustrating to say the least.

Is the ball feed motor getting jammed or are the balls getting stuck in the tray? Mine were getting stuck in the tray at first. After I leveled the cabinet and cleaned the tray, I have not had any more problems.

I have never had my motor jam but I have noticed that the motor shuts down after 45-60 minutes of continuous play. I guess this is some sort of built-in protection but I have never taken the time to find out what initiates the shutdown.

hey, i'm at vespertillio's right now trying to troubleshoot this issue. the motor does work when power is applied, just not when the game switched power is applied. with a dmm applied it (the ac line coming from the switching p/s board to the stepper motor) gets 125v ac when it's turned on, yet with that line (2 org wires) plugged into the motor, the motor does not work.

now, is there any reason that it should show voltage at that without the motor plugged in, but then not work, yet it works plugged into a live ac line?

one thing i'm thinking is voltage. anyone know? is there a specific voltage needed at the switching board for it to supply power? i think it speaks of 1/4v dc or something like that.

I keep screaming interconnect but noone hears me.

sorry. is there any particular cable we should be looking at, and would it be on the p/s board or the switched p/s board,.

The interconnect is a known williams issue especially on hyperballs and it was one of the issues on the hyperball I own. It connects the 2 boards on the left hand side you cant miss it. Its a 40-pin interconnect and when the connections go bad all hell breaks loose. I would suspect that first and once you can confirm that it is ok I would move on to bigger and better things. Marvin3m's site goes into great detail about the interconnects on williams as well especially system 7 like what is in the hyperball. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. And yes the interconnect caused my ball feed motor to quit working. If that interconnect is good, which I highly doubt and they all need to be replaced, then move on to the smaller board on the bottom right and check for bad solder joints, burnt connectors, etc.

is there a good way to test the interconnect cable, or just best to test continuity?

is there a good source for the interconnect cable? looking at marco specialties, i don't see anything.

and also, if it makes any help, on the switching power board on the bottom right, the connector on the left side where it has 120vc, it has nothing whatsoever when tested. 0v.

Well Ill put it to ya this way, if theres an issue with hte interconnect it will start there and its a common issue. That was teh issue with mine however I could look in the manual and see. I ordered my interconnects from jameco, marco is too pricey when it comes to that stuff. Its just a .156 molex connect and get 4x 10 pin connectors.
