Hyperball in the house!!! Pics on page 2

Okay, say what you want, but I just bought a Hyperball. It's in REALLY nice condition, and works (minus some segments out in the playfield display). I am one of the odd people that actually likes this machine alot.

Anyway, I am NOT typically a fan of LED's in pinball machines, but I think this machine may be the exception. It always seemed a bit dark to me. Does anyone out there have LED bulbs in a Hyperball machine?

If so, can you get a video for me so I can see how it looks?

Thanks!

Chris

I personally hate LED' s in pins. Hyberball/Rapid Fire machines might be the exception. I have pondered doing my Rapid Fire up in LED's so would be curious to see how it turns out as well.

See, that's the thing. I'm the same way on LED's. Just not a fan. BUT, Hyperball always seems SO dark to me, this may be the "pop" it needs. WOn't help the gameplay though, and people will still not know how to play it, but it may look nice :)

Once I get it in-house, I will weigh the situation. If I go for it, there will be photos :)

Welcome to the club !! :)

Before deciding on the LED's.....clean the underside of the playfield real good.
It's a pain, but I know mine was filthy when I got it. The areas under the lightning bolts and such were blackened by the "soot".

Sorry I read Hyperball and my mind saw Rapid Fire... I think LED in the early Williams SS should be fine. Sorry for the confusion!

post pics/vid if you do this.. I have a line on a really nice HB and was wondering the same thing... the thing that may make it a little odd looking (or cause a seizure in this game) is the instant on/off of LED's... you don't have the light fade of regular bulbs which seem to work well in this playfield.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this already... but as many inserts as that playfield has, wouldn't you spend more on the LED's than the value of the game itself??

Lol, I wondered about that as well. And hey, I like my Rapid Fire.. I just wish there was a rapid fire mod for it :) My fingers get sore!!

Wooohoo!!! It's here!!!

I am so happy! Of course, it does not work, but that's okay!!!

There is a bizarre wiring issue on the backbox, so there's no GI, and the auger jams, but I will get to that in time. My happiness is beczause this is SO nice. I realize many dislike this machine, and that's okay by me. I thought this was in great condition.

On to the pics!!

Sadness - and empty void where the non-working Lost World was:

As stated on the tag, there were these parts in the envelope!!!

It looks so happy next to it's big brother Black Knight:

All in all I think it was a good pickup. Just need to get the auger working 100% and replace about 100 bulbe and I'll be in great shape!!

Oh, and for the record, Wade was right, there's WAY too many bulbs for me to even CONSIDER going LED!

Thanks for looking!

Chris

Very nice !!
(of course I am partial to those machines):)

The GI issue is probably the most common failure on those.
I mentioned it in this thread, with a pic of the general area and connectors to check. (check the wiring AND pcb)
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=125811&highlight=Hyperball&page=2
Also found in that thread is the v6 ROM file for high score saving if you don't already have it in yours. (will have to burn a rom of course)
There is information in that thread for new balls too if you find you need them.

The auger jamming is most likely some minor misalignment of the troughs and such, shouldn't be too big a deal.

Be sure the lower level "playfield" board is in place and watch for balls that escape and get through to the bottom of the cabinet.

Crank up the volume and enjoy !!

They're fun for a play every once in a while. Incredibly loud machines though, wow! They've always surprised me how crazy loud they are. Makes me wonder if it is part of the reason they were not very popular.

Looks nice!
