hyperball alphanumeric display & GI light issue

just got my Hyperball up & running for the very first time (thanks chris m) & have just 1 issue. when fired up either in "attract mode" or during game play the alphanumeric display under the playfield doesn't work & none of the GI lights (located under plastics like A, B, C, etc...) work. looking @ the manual it states it may be IC13 on driver board which is a 2114-45 1k x 4-Bit Static RAM. just wondering if this may be correct or should I be looking @ something else. thx!

o......& of course I have checked fuses...... just wanted to add that

whoops again... it states IC3 blanking gate. I can't seem to locate it on the board. are the 2 issues related?

HEY! Glad to have helped!!

OK now, most GI circuits are just plain hardwired and/or relay controlled (Williams did this in several games). YOurs being a system 7, you have the control relay on your power supply board (lower right corner).

See the two-pronged plug below the relay (yellow wires)? Is is browned/burned at all? The GI circuits carry alot of current, and over time get hot and fail. If it is, you need to FIX it.

You also MAY have a fuse next to the connector. If you do, CHECK IT (you already MAY have). If it is blown you will have no GI.

Display data comes from the MPU board, if there is nothing at the display it can mean:

1) Something has failed on the MPU board (no data output)
2) The display is bad (it happens)
3) The high voltage on the power supply is bad (these transistors do fail)

Let me know what you find.

Chris
