I need some help with my Hyper Sports board. It has vertical lines through the picture and no sound. I don't think it is a monitor setting or power supply because when I plug in my Track & Field board the game is perfect. When I plug in the Hyper Sports board, this is what I get.
See pics below.

Any help would be appreciated.

It looks completely ruined. You might as well just give it away for scrap parts. Just kidding.

I had a similar looking problem helped by checking and reconnecting the ribbon cable. It could have just been coincidence, most of my repairs are.

I've tried reconnecting the ribbons and the main wiring plug (don't know what that is technically called) a couple of times, but got the same results. I was thinking about taking out and re-seating all of the ROMs but I really don't want to bend or break a pin.

More suggestions?

First...

Pull out each ROM one by one and clean the legs. Those boards have problems with corroded pin legs.

As you pull out each ROM, check the sockets for corrosion. Replace any bad sockets with good quality double wipe sockets.

This is a common problem with those old Konami boards.

If that's not it...

Replace the ribbon cable. It's old and probably hardened.

Well, cleaning all the ROMs worked pretty well, so I can play it now, but still no sound. Also there is some vertical bars around the character and I don't know if there is a particular ROM that needs some more cleaning or what.

I appreciate the help so far and it is playable now but I welcome some more tips if anyone has any.

See pics for the remaining problems.

i would start with replacing any electrolytic capacitors in the audio circuit. when they dry out/go bad they can cause all kinds of quirky problems. then i would un-solder the audio transistor to test it. look and reflow any cold solder joints, burnt/brown/stinky resistors, and finally i would look carefully at the PCB edge connector to see if theres any problem with the +12 volt pad.
