I replaced the pot and the steering is jumpy. Also in the menu turning from center to left the numbers change fast, but turning from center to right the numbers change slow.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's a brand new pot. Can't hit it with cleaner because it's a sealed style like the one for need for speed. This thing has a motor/steering setup like the need for speed games so the original pot with the slit won't work

From center to right the steering is perfect, but from center to left it's really jumpy and pulls very hard.

Another thing: when I turn the game off it turns the wheel to the right. Not sure what's going on.

calibrate the new pot. Not sure where it is in the test mode but its in there some where.

Did a factory reset and it's a little better. It's a little jumpy on the ends and right in the center, but it moves smoothly the rest of the way.

In selection menus/game the feedback seems to be acting when it shouldn't. Also once the race is over the feedback goes nuts until it goes to the scores screen. The other issue it's doing is when I shut the game off the wheel slams all the way right. So I'm thinking that something is going on with the feedback board from when the panel slammed to the floor and pulled the plug.

Tested the pot and it's testing good on a meter. Don't have another hand to see the motion while turning the pot, but the numbers are good all three test ways.

Unplugged the motor and went into test, but that didn't change anything. So motor unplugged, pot good, and still jumpy. Going to chase down the other end of the plug and see if maybe it's having some issues with an intermittent broken wire.

Tested the pot with a 3rd hand and one side opens completely when you get to the end and its scratchy during movement. So guess I'm going to order another $40 pot and hope for the best!

Shit, Don't waste your money on those.
Go to Jameco and get part Number 13995 (That is a Jameco part number) There like 10.00 each.

Ken Layton told me about these and I bought 4. They work great, but you have to solder on the wires.

I actually have one of these at home, but didn't see how it wouldn't spin on the metal bar and how I would keep it from sliding inside the shaft since the shaft has a set screw. Might give it a try again tonight...

If you tighten the nut enough it should stay put. Theres not a lot of torque being put on that pot unless it seizes.

Its 5k, it should work.

second question: Where can I get a new set screw at? This one is pretty torn up and I can't put much force without tearing up the head more.

For anyone that might need to know in the future: The set screw is an M3 and can be found at Home Depot or Lowes.

Update on pot: Pulled my NFS apart, plugged the overly priced pot in that was jumping in the hydro and it works... Also tested the other solder pot and it's also working good. So it's either the wiring going from the pot to the board or the board itself has a bad solder joint I'm thinking... Will update once I pull the board and check it.

I'm having like the same problem in a way. When I brought it, it worked great for two races and the steering wheel was moving left and right by itself during the race. I brought a new pot from Jameco and it still is acting funny. I can't even select a boat on the select screen. I think I'm gonna order a pot from Twisted Quarters and hope for the best.

Yeah I went to the calibration/Throttle option and when I tried to turn the wheel it jumps up from 0 to 100 instantly (very sporadic) just by turning it and i know that's not right at all. I put a new pot in the wheel and I also realize that one of the wire got cut, fixed that and still acting weird. Go into the actual game play the steering wheel don't respond and I can't pick my boat. The boat turns a hard right with the force feedback working. I've got a 5k pot from Jameco and was wondering do I need get the actual pot from Twisted Quarters or investigate the board itself?

Thanks!

Any 5k pot should work, so long as its not some crazy accelerated sweep or something. Or a 10 turn pot. Even so, it should work.

Its not enough to go to the calibration screen but you actually have to reset the pot values and go through the motions of recalibrating the pots.
