After several months i finally got a chance to get back to my hydro thunder steering problem.

what happens is the steering is always pulling to the right. no matter which way you turn the wheenl the boat always turns hard right.

I have checked the connections from the pot to the diego board hand it all checked out. For the record i replaced this pot with a brand new one from Betson.

I went into the steering calibration and neither trottle movement nor steering is detected on the screen. The nitro button works but that's about it.

what do i check next? Is this a diego board issue? is there any way i can test the deigo board to rule out any issues with it?

A couple of things to try / check:

Enter the game menu, find the option to clear the RAM/Back up data, select clear data and confirm.

Go to calibrate controls and recalibrate.
After calibration, go to switch / controls / input test (I forget the exact wording) and check the throttle & steering.
The two Pots should count up & down in value smoothly.

Disconnect the force feedback motor at the two pin molex connection. If the steering returns, the driving board is bad.

Also, double check that the Steering Pot is still attached to the mounting bracket and the set screw is seated on the Pot shaft.

Good luck.

thanks. I cleared all the backup data and recalibrated and the boat goes left now instead of right and reverse instead of forward. I then disconnected the molex connector from the steering motor and nothing changed. I did a full factory restore and tried to recalibrate again but I still don't get any response from the wheel or the throttle.

This is a strange situation you have.

Was the Pot Betson shipped you Black with 3 solder tabs and rated 5K? Or did they ship you the Black Pot with header pins rated 5K? There was a time when Betson was selling a replacement Pot where the pin / tab positions were reversed (1-2-3 / 3-2-1) and if pins 1 & 3 were connected wrong you would get a situation similar to yours.

Did you receive the game in this condition? It is possible that someone tried to replace one or both pots prior? If they made wrong connections to begin with you would have a false reference for replacement.

I would disconnect the steering pot and then recalibrate controls again. If the throttle returns to normal operation (assuming this Pot is good) then the steering pot is wired wrong or Betson shipped you the wrong one.

You could also possibly have a pinched wire from setting the dash back in place (It happens).

The pot i got from Betson is rated 5k. he pins are 123.

I bought the machine at auction and it was like thi when i got it. I did notice that the existing pot was forced on backward and tiestrapped on to the mount. I checked the wires under the dash and verything loos fine.

One thing i did notice is that there is a 7 pin connector with 6 pins and one blocked off that is disconneced. there appears to b 2 places that this could b plugged into on the diego board(jp13 and jp14). im asuming the connector goe on one of those but im not sure which. i looked at the schematic and i didnt see anything about those 2 jumpers.
