Hydro Thunder 6 beeps, stop, 6 beeps. What could it be?. am i missing something?

Purchased the complete hydro thunder computer said to be in full working order.
Straight out of the box, power up connected to a pc monitor I get 6 beeps over & over..
Anyone know what this error is? pretty stresed in the vid as you may sense.

ok so found the manual..
says 6 beeps is a peripheral problem.
shouldnt i still get a spalsh screen though as I am not.
the cabinet is 35 miles away so i figured i would be able to get splash screen here.

off to the arcade to seat in the cab.. fingers crossed..

I'll step forward and say that I was the one who sold it to him. Worked perfectly when I sold it, and had it in my possession days ago. So, I'm excited to see this working in the actual machine. :)

I just thought - After I bought mine I had some issues too (nothing on screen). There was nothing on screen until I realized that it's not only the VGA connector attaching to the back of the box but also HAVING THIS MAGICBUS card that does all the work to get this game up and running ! costed my another $200 to get the card.

You are referring to the cards in the machine, and not the PC, yes? Perhaps the Diago board? I know that you can't really hook up VGA to VGA on this, I don't think. That's what that board does; it converts the VGA to medium resolution (among other things, I'm sure).

Yes, the card is in the cab, not the pc-box and it's called 'magicbus' (here's a pic of a similar 'magicbus' card: http://system16.com/boards/arctict_io.jpg). It's serial attached to the PC-Box. Nearly the same card is also used in the similar game 'offroad thunder'. From the manuals I see there are some differences for the magicbus cards but have been told from an operator that they seem to be interchangeable. That's also what I'm running, an 'Offroad Thunder'... and loaned the drive image to mame dev for 'archival'... so if you would like to play offroad thunder some day - maybe just a drive image copy away :) I don't remember if there's also a dongle needed... but no, I don't think...

Ah, see... that's what I called a "Diego board". I had the same issue not long ago, until I replaced it. Totally external issue.

Chad calmn down brother. I played steves hydrothunder myself and im still sad that it got parted. I assure you, you got good parts there man. MAn that was a fun game.

Sorry for the panic everyone... It's in the arcade now working perfectly!
I didn't realize that the system barks at you with beeps if the Diego interface board is not connected! I am / was unfamiliar with the hardware until I started reading up on it then felt like a spaz after I found out this is normal if your just boot it raw without the Diego board connected.

Thanks to Steve / John Rainbow for the great sale, excellent communication, fast shipping and the pleasant transaction. I would buy from him again anytime.

you were right rainbo, for hydro thunder, the board is named "diego board", I checked again with the manual... for arctic thunder "substitute board" and for offroad thunder "magicbus interface card".. but all have the same function/blocker.

Hydro thunder

THE HYDRO THUNDER I/O BOARD IS CALLED DIEGO BOARD, THE MAGIC BUS BOARD IS FOR THE OFFROAD THUNDER AND ARCTIC THUNDER I/O BOARDS.

THE SERIAL CABLE BETWEEN THE COMPUTER AND I/O BOARD MUST BE CONNECTED WITH A NULL SERIAL CABLE, SERIAL CABLE MUST BE CONNECTED TO SERIAL PORT1 NOT PORT2.

THE SIX BEEPS MEANS IT'S NOT COMMUNICATING WITH THE I/O BOARD.

A STANDARD VGA MONITOR WILL NOT WORK AS THIS GAME IS EGA FORMAT NOT VGA FORMAT.

A MULTI SINK CGA,EGA,VGA MONITOR WILL WORK JUST FINE.
