Any suggestions on a high voltage probe for discharging monitors? Are some better then others? Just not looking for the screw driver with an alligator clip type. :) Thanks.

Just make sure to get one that does 40K VDC. Some do about 20K and that is less than some of the monitors use. I bought a NOS Fluke HV Probe off of ebay for $50 and they still sell them at Fry's for well over $100. So just look around for a deal.

Also, unless you get one with a built-in meter, you will need a Multi-meter with 10M Ohm Impedance to use the probe and get accurate readings.

Also, be careful about the naming of some of the probes...

Fluke has a 80K-6 which makes it look like 80K volts, but it is actually only 6K volts. The 80K-40 is 40K VDC which is what you would need.

Worse case, this place I order from has some new for a reasonable price ($57) if you cannot find one you want on ebay.

This might sound like a dumb question, but how do you tell what impedance a multimeter is rated at? Are you just referring to the Ohms rating? I'm thinking about getting a better one:

I checked the manual for the 115 and it says it is 10M Ohm or greater. It does support a low Impedance feature, but it looks like you turn that on/off when you need it. Attached is the specs from the manual... See the VDC Impedance value on the input.
