HUO killer instinct. How much would you pay?

Wow, WTF!?!
What made KI's triple in value in the last year?
(runs to dig 5 PCB's back out of the trash pile)
For the record I really like this game.

I honestly believe that the market for the 90s games is going to pick up. The guys in their mid to late 20's now have enough extra coinage to put the games they grew up playing in their man caves.

I think that the game just a few year ago was worth 250 - 350; but now that its in demand and if it is nice ... I'd say about 500-650 .

Good luck... I'd go in low...

He says 1900 is what he bought it for..... if he bought it brand new, I can sort of understand.

If he bought it actually brand new from the factory he would have paid a *hell* of a lot more for it. Sounds like a retailer sold it to him along with some bs story about it never seeing on location placement.

This thread's got me wanting to play KI again. I remember it being somewhat fun, will have to track down a way to put hands on some iteration of it.

Really!?! Awesome! I am going to be rich then.
Any of you mid 20 somethings want to buy a Die Hard Arcade for $3K?
Its not HUO but with a little work you could make it look like it is and impress your friends.

But really its hard for me to see such a high value on this game. Having sold a few and seen so many sell in that 300 range. And even to get that would take forever for someone to come along that wanted to pay that. I wont even talk about the ones nobody would even take for like 250 and get converted or even just busted up.

Horrible comparison--that's like saying since Frogger or Arkanoid are old they should command $3k. I think the price range for popular dedicated 90's games is currently shaky--in some areas, you could find some eager soul who would pay $500+ for the popular 4-player Konami games, nice/dedicated Mortal Kombats, or other games from that era, but in other places it may be hard to get $300 for them. I got $450 + shipping for a nice MK4. I think in this case, condition was key. The buyer wouldn't have paid good money for an average condition game, and definitely not some converted mess.

Back on topic, an average condition non-working Killer Instinct went for $500 at an auction here a few months ago. The buyer was a KLOV'er and I'm sure he got it running no problem, but it was one he really wanted, so I think the prices given here are not out of line.

This was kinda my point about the 90's comment.
Would someone take a deluxe manx tt super bike twin if they were paid to haul it away? I think not. :)
Damn, this thread is making me want to play KI now. I need to get one of these PCB's working.

I caught your sarcasm. Lemme brain dump for a second:

Maybe it's a Cali thing, since we're both on the same page. 500+ for a KI seems like a combination of desperation and not wanting to look very hard. Someone is going to play the region card, so I'll just admit to it being easier out here. 1900 is still bonkers and 700-1000 is a little less bonkers unless it's from a retail outlet (which I still think is bonkers, but it's a bonkers that isn't catering to collectors). There is only one mass run 90's cabinet I can think of that could command 5-700 bucks out of suckers...I mean...collectors on a regular basis -- MVS (in non-project condition). Part of that is from the baggage that Neo Geo collectors have created for themselves, what with overvaluing every damn thing with SNK/Neo Geo associated with it. Collectors could still find one that was damn near complete for 2-300. Roll up the sleeves, put the word out and stay patient.

As for 500 at an auction, is that including all the obligatory phantom bidding (arcade auctions have a thing for being haunted by ghostly figures only the auctioneer can see)? ;)

As a relevant, but side note: I get a very strong impression that some vid people are looking over at our neighbors collecting pinball, see the price tags and either don't understand the difference...or really want their machines to be as valuable...or really want to believe all the random loony CL ads reflect true value.

I said, there is nothing to see here people. ;)

I wouldnt sell mine for $500 thats for sure. Just the board is bringing $200 and up right now and mine has a brand new monitor that cost a little over $300. Not to mention mine looks like it could be HUO even though it is not. The artwork was protected by a nice coat of paint that came off easily and revealed mint sideart on both sides. If the day ever comes that I get rid of my games this one will probably be the last to go.

The comments saying this game shouldn't command the price it does...the days of 70s/early 80s classics are drawing near to and end.
As was already mentioned, the 20-30 crowd are now homeowners with the money to buy games from THEIR childhood...not yours!

There are FIVE! Yes count em FIVE, people on a local board I frequent that are looking for this game. Supply and demand...

I appreciate the classics, but you can keep your overpriced EDOTs and Major Havoks etc...I think they stink and aren't worth the price they command.

See what I did there? ;)

The winner is pretty auction-savvy. I don't think he'd let himself get played by shill bidding.

Yup Im 23 and now I'm focusing on getting games I played as a child. Mk's, rev x, t2, area 51, virtua cop, virtua fighter ect... Most of my grails are made from 1992 and up. I do have a select few of classics I want but for the most part I want newer games an I finally got 3 game within a months period I always wanted. I do want a killer instinct but there's no way in he'll I'll pay over 500$.

I'm guessing all these old fart comments are aimed at me, which would be a pretty wild, and wrong, presumption. Considering I fall into your suggested age category, what with being in my early 30's and having been collecting 90's stuff since...well...the 90's.

By all means, go find five KI's and sell it for 700-1000 to five suckers, who will within about 3 months try to sell it for 1000 on CL to another sucker, who will then be the butt of a "WTF CL LOL!" thread here. Be sure to tell them there is a lead to a "HUO" one on KLOV for 1900.

Next thing everyone is going to tell me is Primal Rage is suddenly worth $700. ...I see you typing a reply to this, so I am just going to fire first with "LOL...seriously though...you aren't serious...".

See what I did right there? Right there. Up there. See it?
