HUO killer instinct. How much would you pay?

This last year I have sold 2 working KI board sets for $200 each and recently a KI2. I was happy with the price and you tell me I under priced them? Andrew sells them on ebay w/ art and CF kits.

Easy guys. I don't like the game but he asked for no game hater posts. We should respect that.

He can't ask for no game hater posts and in the same post bash classics and expect his request to be honored.

I have some of a KI, but have never played it.

Wow, WTF!?!
What made KI's triple in value in the last year?
(runs to dig 5 PCB's back out of the trash pile)
For the record I really like this game.

well im going to an auction in a week that has one, and if its in good condition my limit is 700 for it. thats a used fec one. mint home I would think 1k+?

KI is fine. I enjoy it on my SNES from time to time. Not sure about having one. Its a big cabinet for my arcade. Good game and all but not on my list. I would rather have a SFII in a 19" cabinet.

I remember KI 1 from my old arcade. One the one hand, it was neat to see the Nintendo name back in arcades. On the other hand, it wasn't played much. I thought the pre-rendered backgrounds and characters were neat. This arcade also had a Dragon's Lair II machine for years, and I never touched that either (along with most everyone else). Oh well, missed opportunity. Not to bash the collectors of these games, glad the cabs are getting good homes and some love.

I don't think you would get over $800 right now with the way things are.

I agree. I think any more than that and it would be really tough to recoup what you have in it if you ever were to get tired of the game. In most cases, I wouldn't pay much more than gently used/restored prices for a HUO game, especially one that probably wouldn't be too hard to find in nice condition.

meh, just got my ass kicked by Wade for using the HUO acronym.... I got a minty Neo-Geo that was labeled HUO. But really, who gives a shit if the feet have touched retail carpet or not?? If the game is nice/mint, then it is what it is. Is anyone out there willing to pay more for a game because it has a sales receipt to some private person vs a company?

By this, I mean:
If you have 2 IDENTICAL mint games, would you pay more for the one that was "proven" HUO? By identical, I mean condition of cabinet and screen both (and not a restore).

And for those of you who would pay more (and I know your out there), just how much more??

LOL, yeah I've been in a bitchy mood lately. :) Everyone has a pet peeve I guess.

Most people would say NO to your question, and "condition is king"...
However, but people keep throwing HUO there to describe games (especially games they are selling), so obviously there is perceived extra value there.

Ultimately it doesn't "really" matter as long as the condition is the same. In reality, the condition is never the same. But wouldn't a car collector rather have one that was one owner, numbers match, etc. versus a car that was once a rental car and was used by hundreds or thousands of people? Same thing with games... rather have a game with 100k on the meter and owned by several vendors and moved a few dozen times, or a game that was bought new and in one person's basement for 25 years? I'd rather have the virgin game, given the choice.

I don't know if I'll ever justify paying extra for HUO games, but I feel for the guys who have true HUO games and if I had some, it'd irritate me even more that people make the claim without proof to back it up. The claim should mean something. After all it is "Home Use ONLY"... not Home Use Maybe, Home Use Often, Home Use Lately... :)

My machine is damn near perfect condition but certainly not HUO. I want you to ask your friend for further details - how did he get it? why did he get it? where did he buy it from? how much did he pay for it? However he obtained it, it would have to be perfect condition in every way for me to pay top price for it which I would consider to be $1,000. No nicks or even slight scratches on anything.

Boardsets for KI/KI2 are averaging around $200. A KI board converted into a KI2 should get you $75 more because of the disk drive add-on board.

Okay, I'm back.

Here's the deal. I am not madly in love with the game, but I figure for as nice of condition it's in, if I could get a good price, why not? He wants 1900 for it! I about gagged when I heard the price.

But, if anyone is interested in the Chicago area, let me know. I told him in this market that 1000 was more realistic. The game has aged horribly, and for that price, I'd rather buy a pinball machine or two really nice arcade machines. Maybe three! lol

HUO? 1900? So is this the incredibly rare Killer Instinct...the pinball game?!?

I just arrived on the scene. Lemme show you my badge. I'll be playing bad KLOV price cop number 2 today. Some of you reaching for the 1k mark in your suggestions are either insane or really, really, really, really desperate for Killer Instinct. The seller in question is obviously bonkers. This suspect should be considered unarmed, but extremely dangerous.

500...maybe. Like. Tops. Pristine. HUO for real because it came from the home of a RARE/Nintendo employee. That he/she could sign for me...and he/she was a lead artist/programmer/designer and not QA. 400 if I really wanted one and it didn't include all those extra neat-o trivia elements the HUO would provide. I'd also have to want it enough to suck up any buyer's remorse I would have from others getting it for less.

Less, like, 300. 300 is *my* magic number for one of these. Working. No issues.

Keep in mind: I play both the "old" games and am a hardcore fighting game player...and I don't enjoy KI. If I did, 3-4 is what I'd expect to pay for a working, non-project KI.

Putting up the crime scene tape. Calling in back up. Move along, there is nothing to see here.

$1900? lol.

I got my super nice one for $600. Lucky I know. I LOVE KI but would never pay $1000 or more for one no matter the condition or who owned it previously.

$500 is way too low. $1000 is a bit high. Of course if you don't like KI you wouldn't be after it anyway. Its possible to find one for $500 but you'll never find one for $300 unless it doesn't work and looks like ass.

Sir. I said move along.

JK! ;)

Okay, let me say this right away. I know many of you are going to be like "25 cents! I hate KI." Yes yes, we get it. You enjoy old shitty games made before I was born.

For those of you, however, that are fighting game fans, what's a truly Home Use Only Killer Instinct 1 worth, do you think? A friend of mine is selling his in mint condition. Just thought I'd ask.

Just buy it steve! You have the areas only huo or make it huo arcade in the area :D

Haha! Like I said, I wasn't dreaming of playing it all my life. I do enjoy it, and thought "what the hell, I'd pay 700." I told him that he wouldn't get 1900 for it. I told him 1k was more likely. He says 1900 is what he bought it for..... if he bought it brand new, I can sort of understand. But Christ almighty, I have a lot of cooler things I'd buy for that much. I can't think of a single arcade machine where I'd drop 1900 for. Not a single one comes to mind. Only pinball would I drop that kind of money on. Only because I know I could get it back years later.

I will show him this thread. Perhaps that will help him understand the current state of the collection biz.

$1900 for retail is normal, places like TNT and Quarter Arcade can sell them for that. But collector to collector is unlikely. However there ARE people out there that will pay that and every once in a while they pop up. I can't remember who but someone on this board sold their Ms Pacman for $1900ish to someone in VA.... And I sold a Centipede upright for $1500 to someone I used to work with....
