I just purchased a HUO Stern Elvis pinball - Brought it home and set it up it has about 100 games on it. Plugged it in and played a few games (Everything worked perfectly) then all coils stopped working, when you would start a game it would not kick the ball up to the shooter lane and the flippers were dead. I took a look behind the translight and noticed the original batteries were in there and had corroded on the springs no leakage at all on the board. Snipped the zip tie and replaced the batteries.

Put the translight back and now there is no dmd display - I checked all the fuses and they tested fine. The L204 light on the power board continually flashes , not sure if it is supposed to.

Any Suggestions / Ideas

Power off, go over the game looking for connectors that came off or are loose from moving the game.

Then pull fuses and check with a meter.

If all good, then start suspecting battery damage below the holder you can't see.

LTG :)

I replaced all the fuses with new ones and reseated all connectors, I removed the board and looked at the board it looks like new not a spot on it anywhere?

Does it matter if there were some corrosion left on the holder? - It works without the batteries doesn't it?

1. Yes, it works without batteries or if the batteries are totally dead, you will just get an error like "Factory Setting Restored" when the game boots up because the batteries are not maintaining the memory on the CPU board.

2. The worry here is not that the corrosion is on the battery holder, the worry is that the corrosion has spread onto the traces and components on the rest of the CPU board. Often you cannot even see this damage visually or at least very easily. This is a very common problem when the batteries are never changed, or not frequently enough. It can give the boards "cancer" that can be difficult to impossible to repair.

3 bucks worth of batteries can destroy a 300 dollar CPU board.

OK - I took out the processor board and notice a small dot of blue corrosion between 2 ic legs - I cleaned it off and now the machine is working again - Thank You to all who replied.

That's great and it's good you narrowed down the problem.

I hope that's the last issue you have with that battery leakage, but it may resurface again.

A good idea may be to take the CPU board out, de-solder the battery holders off the board, clean the area thoroughly and solder in a remote battery holder so it never happens again.

Enjoy your pin.

Sweet! I only asked if it was clean by having your exact same issue. I used a vinegar water solution to take that blue crap off then BINGO game on!

Enjoy your pin!
