Humming from Asteroids Speaker

I repinned all the connectors on the power brick and the monitor on my asteroids and that fixed the hum on mine. I figured mine was a connector as if I slapped the side of the cabinet like a pimp slapping a ho for his money, it would go away or get better.

Are you still getting the hum if you unplug the game board?
A little bit, but not the chattery hum like when the game PCB is plugged in. The hum with no game PCB sounds more like the hum that comes from the power supply.

There is some chatter heard through the speakers, but it's normally pretty low. Not enough to be annoying, but you can hear it.
I guess it's possible it's normal chatter.

I'd check to make sure no caps or other parts are broken or missing on the game board, especially around where the LM324 is, in that overall corner of the PCB. There are several caps that like to break off in that area, as they stick up pretty far. Or any other cracked resistor or cap could cause noise.
I'll take a closer look at everything with some bright light and see if I find anything.

Trying to track down a louder hum too. When replacing the 2N3055 bottlecap transistor on the heatsink of the AR does it also require an insulator?
Yes, use a SilPad available from @security0001

With the SilPad, you don't have to use the white heat sink thermal bridge goop.

Yes, the 2N3055 requires an insulator. It should have one from the factory. But if not, install one (and replace the 3055, as it's probably bad now.)

Hum won't come from the 3055 though. It would be from a bad TDA2002 on the AR, or from a bad LM324 on the game board.

Power the cab up with the game board edge connector unplugged. If you still hear hum, it's the AR.
