Had a huge score on monday and pics to prove it. Got 1 Mrs Pac cabinet with some water damage on the bottom, 2 nintendo cabinets both with monitors but the Arkanoid cab (I know crazy), had the board removed but we have an extra laying around. 1 Crazy Climber cabinet with 10 yard fight installed.

And a huge story surrounding the Street Heat and Rally X cabinets that I will post below.

Story on Rally X

So as we are going home with 4 cabinets strapped to our trailer someone walks up to us and asks: Do you collect these things. Buffett was with me and started talking to the guy and he says follow me and I have 2 machines that I cannot remember the names of that you can have for 50$.

So we start out on our adventure. About 5 miles through a bunch of winding roads I notice that the houses have become sparse and we are heading past BFE and into the depths of West Virginia. Now to give some background I have no problem with people who live the way they want to or have to. I was born and raised however in the sub-urbs of Detroit and have been mugged before; so I do have a lot of anxiety about placing myself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So Buffett starts to dreaming about what treasure might be uncovered in this expedition and I start dreaming about getting robbed at gun point or left for dead in the boonies. Then we pull up to a junkyard and start driving through at least a mile of junked cars, and garbage and my heart is pounding. I start to make sure that I have plenty of room to turn around between me and them in case something starts going down.

That's when I start hearing banjoes (okay not really). We pull up to a really worn down house and two barns that are made out of school busses as a foundation with the tires missing and just plopped on the ground. I started reflecting on several horror movies, Like TX chainsaw Massacre; that could have used this as a set to make people crap thier drawers at the start of the movie. I also start to wonder who will play me on the silver screen re-enactment that will likely be done in 10 years after our bodies are found.

So they show us the cabinets which were stored in the chopped off cab of a moving truck and were super nice to us pulling out the cabinets and as we gave them a look over. The street heat was severly water damaged and will need to be thrown out but the board, parts, and monitor are still there. The Rally X looks promising but I have not checked it yet. We walked out paying 25$ for the bundle.

Again the guys were super nice but I will be honest I was scared s**tless and would have probably never done this without Buffett. My heart is pounding now just thinking about it.

The movie you should be thinking about is Deliverance. I'm with you on the anxiety thing and will pass up a NIB "insert high $$$ game" in those situations. Driving with Buffett probably made it a lot easier.

Looks like a nice haul. That is one of the later Ms. Pacs. How bad is the water damage?

it's stories like these that make me happy that people save games and the excitement of how the person got them...

it was a fun time we all got something good.

You sure do have a pretty mouth lol that's funny but I understand why you would think that way. It's a good lesson for everyone on here sometimes you have no clue what that persons intentions are. I'm sure most people have heard of bad things happening to people who were going to buy something from someone from Craigslist. There are some really bad / nasty people out there. I saw my share of it before I retired. I hope no one on here or any of your family ever fall victim to one of these types of predators. Just remember what he said keep enough distance between you and them and give yourself a way out. Always take a friend if your meeting someone for the first time. These are smart tips to remember. Again glad your story turned out to be a good one but like you I'm very familiar with Detroit. Bad things can happen anywhere.

Good point Buffett may be nice but I bet he punches like a Mac truck; so I did feel better having some back-up!

Very bottom of Mrs Pac is really bad not sure if I can save the Pac Man sheet on the bottom which makes it really unique as a first production machine. I will post some pics in the restoration section to see if anyone has some ideas on how I might save it.

It was probably a Pac cab to begin with, then converted by an Op to Ms Pac.

Nice! That Ms. Pac is from one of the last runs with vinyl decals and alt colors.

My guess is the Operator that owned this machine converted a Pac Man to Ms Pac with aftermarket stickers. Mgreen mentioned that he saw a Pac label in the bottom of the cab.

Mgreen, if you decide to scrap that Ms Pac cab for parts, let me know. I'm in need of the metal parts - top/bottom marquee retainers, casters, wiring harness, coin door/bucket, control panel, rear edge guard, leg levelers, speaker, power supply, CP strike plates and latches, plastic dowels, etc. Basically all parts except the maruqee, bezel & pcb. I just had Dptwiz build me a brand new Ms Pac cab, so I need a complete set of metals to dress my old cab that I'm restoring. I'll be transferring my other parts to the new cab.

It is indeed certainly a Ms. Pac, no other cab has that cabinet shape. Not even Galaga, it's slightly different. They just put Pac-Man labels on them as far as I can tell because the boards are Pac conversions, not the cabinets themselves. That is from the last run of Ms. Pacs, not first. The label probably fell off the PCB.

Sorry I explained it very poorly. The very bottom of the cabinet that actually touches the ground, is a sheet of wood with the Pacman original art work still intact. (not on the inside of the cabinet) I know little but someone told me that this was done purposely as Ms Pac was rolled out on the assembly line to tip their hat to the Pac Man era. I'll take some pictures when I get home.

Smalltown thank you for the offer. I too will be purchasing a Dptwiz rebuild but this cabinet was purchased specifically to get my Ms Pacman fix now. I may either keep this one for parts, restore it for sale, or keep it as an heirloom when I get my Dptwiz original.

(I am currently getting a Tron rebuild now so Ms P stays on the backburner)

The first runs of Ms. Pacs had stenciled art, but I have no idea why there is Pac-Man art on the bottom.

Nice story. I am always a little anxious when my GPS starts leading me into a sketchy neighborhood. I went to college in Chicago on the south side (IIT at 35th and State) and that neighborhood was an eye opener.

As I told my co-pilot on one of those expeditions, "Don't worry, as long as we don't go back around the block they won't have time to go in the house and get their guns", for some reason that did not reassure him. :D
