Just wondering if the HP1630G logic analyzer is decent logic analyzer, also how useful are logic analyzers for repairing game boards. I already have a scope and was thinking of getting a logic analyzer to go with it.

Looks like a nice analyzer but my computer isn't near where I work on my games and i don't have a lap top so I am looking for an anaylzer that I don't need to hook up to my computer. I came acorss the HP 1630g but i don't know how decent it is.

Yeah, I run mine on a laptop. Everyone should have a laptop computer for computing on the go. Plus I use my laptop as the best car gps system around with Microsoft Streets & Trips 2010. My gps guided me to pickup the 3 arcade games I bought.

Does anyone know where to get the leads that plug into the pods?

I have two HP1631D's. Excellent logic analyzer for slow stuff such as arcade boards. The 1631 also has a built-in digital scope in addition to the logic analyzer of the 1630.

If buying one - make sure it comes with pods and leads... those are real tough to find. Can sometimes find sets on ebay.

Can't say about the Logic Analyzer, but I had a sig analyzer that didn't have leads. Still had the pod. I wound up using some Pomona clips, and some single stud jacks to make my own leads.

Picked a logic analyzer for $50, it is a sony/tetronix 338 and it has all the pods, leads and manual. Looks to be an older model it has 32 channels, is that sufficient for game board repair?

Necro bump for an old thread!

Did some searching on the pod #s on Google and found that you can make some with these parts:

11 pin Molex connector 09-50-7111 ( Mouser P/N 538-09-50-7111 )
Molex terminal 08-52-0113 ( Mouser P/N 538-08-52-0113 )

I have enough coming in to build 3 sets of cables... Now to find some cheap test clips. At $1.21 each or $1.01 in 10 or more, these test clips add up to some bucks...

Mouser part #:
13IC307 (Red)
13IC308 (Black)
13IC309 (Blue)
13IC310 (Green)
13IC311 (Yellow)

I'll let ya know how it works out.
