I'm super stoked to have found this community. Sorry it took a couple months to make my introduction.
I'm Mike, I live in Florida's Space Coast.
My dad flew helicopters and I grew up on Marine bases. Marine Corps Air Station New River had a Midway Whirlybird game, I think at the Officer's club. I played it standing on a chair. Loved that game. I also played one in Myrtle Beach.
It was decades later I before I discovered another Whirlybird at the Musee Mechanique on Pier 45 in San Francisco. I visited it often, even though I lived on the other side of the country.
Work trips and in laws in California made it easy.
I bought my own Whirlybird years ago and still play it weekly.
One of my best friends worked at "Flipper McCoys" Arcade during high school, and that had benefits. One machine captivated, challenged and robbed me. I fondly remembered the game, but not it's name. While waxing nostalgic last year, I did a quick search, rediscovered the name of the game and bought my Vanguard Machine on eBay. Thanks to uShip I was playing it in my garage 3 days later.
That's how this started. I found KLOV researching my 2 games and how to take care of them. I also found an Evel Kneivel Pinball machine.
I love the Paul Faris artwork as much as the game. The decorations on my helmet, when I flew for the Marine Corps, were inspired by that artwork.
I love restoring old stuff and "the hunt". This site made it easy find, way too easy. I guess that is how this obsession starts.
While browsing this Forum in March, I saw an advertisement for an outrun cockpit.
Wait, you can buy an outrun cockpit driving simulator game that you sit in?
It was on my trailer coming home that day. This one is, and will be a challenge.
My family says I can fix anything but a "rainbow or a broken heart".
Hoping it doesn't become "rainbow, broken heart or that arcade game"
I did not need another obsession. Thankfully my wife doesn't think it's a problem. She wants a Paperboy Game.
Thanks for adding me.
