Hi All. Just found this forum last week while researching a problem with my Atari Tempest cabaret unit. Looks like a great group of people.
I started out in 1982 working with Atari 8-bit computers at ANALOG Computing Magazine (yes, I am a real fossil) and loved playing Tempest, Space Duel, Gravitar and Battlezone at arcades -- the vector games really appealed to me. I bought my first Tempest machine in 1984 and kept it at work. When I moved to Kansas City I was unable to take it with me, though.
Picked up a Space Duel machine in KC around 1988, and another Tempest (best video game ever!) from QuarterArcade back in 2002.
The Tempest started acting up last year and I didn't have time to troubleshoot it -- fixed it last night thanks to tips found in this forum!
Looking forward to learning more and fixing up my Space Duel now -- it had some flaky behavior, funky video and I can see some damaged components on the PCB.
Onward!
