+1 to bondo and sand. I just got done redoing a Punchout speaker panel that I bondo/sand and then laminated. I will post some pics of the result soon. Be careful getting too much bondo inside the grills as you will just have to sand it out. You could also use a router to cut clean out the slots after the bondo dries.

yea i was afraid of getting bondo inside the grill and not being able to get it back out. i'll just put the bondo on as careful as possible and see how it goes.

If you go inside the cabinet... 2 screws and the panel should pop right out.
Bondo, sand, then paint, then replace the panel.

Matching the color is going to be your biggest worry.
You might end up having to sand / bondo then entire back to get it to look right, but if you take your time, it's easy to do.

Heck... while your waiting on the bondo to dry, give the panel a fresh coat of black paint too.

:)

Agreed. I just did the same with my vs. bondo and sand, take out the panel and paint it.

I had to redo a cab like that and it was a complete pita. Fill, sand, chip bondo out of grooves with 5-in-1 tool, repeat until satisfied. It seemed never ending though. Trying to get primer and black paint in those grooves is a hassle as well.

If I had to do it again I'd probably seek out a new CNC routed repro from someone who makes cabinets, or try to roll my own with some very careful, guided swipes of a router.
