I bought CitrusStrip from HD to get all of the original paint off of my Tempest cab, but it's looking like the walls underneath are just particle board. Does that sound right?

My additional questions are:

1. once you're down to the bare wood, I've seen people talk about using 240-grit paper. But my question is, are they BLOCK sanding the walls to get them smooth? Or is a D-A sander being used? I know the theory behind working on wood and sanding it, but I'm concerned about the sides of my cab looking all wavy if I don't do my homework prior.

2. When a game like Tempest is being restored, what kind of paint/primer do you use on the side walls to have them ready for side art rather than for any stenciling?

Those are all of the questions I can think of for now. Sorry if some think this should be in the "repair" section, I wasn't sure if I should drop it there or not since most repair-oriented questions are geared towards the hardware IN the cab, not the surface OF it.

Thanks!

Aw hell. Just forget this post. I'm not used to the "cabinet cosmetics whatever" category since this is my first time doing one.

My bad people. :(

I'd like to hi-jack this thread and find out what to do with the laminate on one of my cabs. It has white laminate over the particle board. Do I just prime that then paint it?

Yes, I too would like to know. Maybe vintagegamer knows about some sub forum where the information could be found?
