With the closing of Klovimg and the push to have more of the arcade media centralized for the sake of preservation, I felt it was time to make a quick primer to help people use the media section of the forums. The media area is fully featured photo album organizer that makes it easy to upload, share and even discuss images about your latest projects and even cabinets and project's you'd like to share with others on KLOV.

At the very top of the forums header you will notice a url linking to the Media section.

The media index page have multiple links to easily allow you to navigate and view photos from other KLOV members and even your own. It also includes a quick sub-menu to allow you to quickly upload images.

Media Side-menu

Browse albums: This will show you all of the latest media in order of time and date uploaded.
Your media: quickly browse your personal media
Your albums: quickly browse your personal albums

Add media menu

The add media menu will popup a quick menu that allows you to upload media

Create a personal album:
This allows you to upload multiple images to a new photo album
Add media to existing album: this allows you to upload multiple images to an exiting photo album you have created.

Create New Personal Album Menu:

Here a number of parameters must be added in order to create an album. At the top you have the option of uploading files or embedding existing media (using BBCode). Upload file menu will allow you to easily upload multiple files at once.

Album title and description: Enter in an album title and description that bets fits your new personal album.

Album privacy: Here you can control who sees your new personal photo album. Album owner sets your new album to completely private. Only you can see this album. Everyone (default) allows anyone with access to the Media section to see your album. You can also allow specific members view-only privileges to your new personal album.

Fill out the appropriate sections and click save. You've just created your first album.

Sharing Albums: Sharing albums on KLOV forum threads is easy. Simply click on the album and the bottom right menu has easy access links to copy and paste gallery BBCode for your forum posts.

Thanks for this info.

It would be great if we could somehow batch download from KLOVimg and batch upload to the media section here and retain images within threads. I have hundred of images in my restore / discussion threads, and I've already gone back and fixed the Photoshop shit once, I'm not doing it again when KLOVimg goes away.

Not sure what @mclemore and @thegleek have in the plans for klovimg right now. If you have your backup then hold onto it. I'd say in the meantime start using the media section to catalog your new images from this point forward and wait to hear what the final verdict will be with the stuff hosted on klovimg.

Missing the ability to paste photos. All of the photos I take are on my phone, then synced on Google photos. For me to have to download locally, then upload here is a pain. I can easily paste photos in the threads. Maybe I'm just missing something?

If you use google photos you should have copies of those photos locally on your phone. You should also be able to just hotlink to your images to forum threads using bbcode.

Does the system ingest the images and store locally?

Does the system ingest the images and store locally?

As far as i remember google photos simply backs up and organizes your photos to the cloud. It does not delete original photos from your device. I started tinkering with it when you mentioned this but i had to stop for a bit as I'm kind of juggling a few things at once. Will eventually run some more tests on my end. It may be possible that there is a google photos bbcode we can add to the forums if there isn't already one.

In the meantime you should be able to use the images you have stored locally on your device or copy a direct link to your google photos share link.

How do I upload a video to the media section?
I have a folder with a .png in it now. I'm trying to add some videos, but it won't let me. It keeps telling me the videos are not encoded in a valid format and can't be trancoded. I've tried every listed "acceptable" format (.mov, .mp4, .ogg, etc) and they all failed.

EDIT: Here's a screen shot of the error when trying to upload an OGG file:

Most of the data editing functions on the main site (other than account settings) have been turned off while we begin to upgrade the site tomorrow, including: game edit, submit game, submit image, submit description, VAPS profile, VAPS game or parts have or wanted, etc. Thanks for your patience.

Right. Thanks.
I saw that. But it did let me upload a .png no problem...so I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong with the videos.
I'm the opposite of an expert on video formats and web media.

What is the code to embed an image from the site into a forum post? I.e. https://forums.arcade-museum.com/media/20231214_215022-jpg.20767/

I thought it used to be
img and /img with square brackets but that doesn't seem to work

The media section seems super super picky about how strict (or lack thereof) the formats should be.

I downloaded a sample ogg and sample MP3 of the same track. Both failed. I downloaded the sample ogg and converted it to MP3 myself and it uploads fine.

TLDR; Problem is resolved.

I can't get any videos to upload correctly. Not at all. I've beat my head on this for a loooooong while.
Tried coming out of my phone directly (.mov). Tried using VLC to convert to other formats.
The only one that works is .mp4. But the first 3 seconds of the video is missing after transcoding.
I'll wait a couple of days for the site to settle down and try again.
After that I'll just go back to hot linking from google or something. PITA.

The only video format I could get working was .mp4. But the first several seconds was missing from the video.
I was using VLC to transcode the video. The problem turned out to be a (known) bug in the newer versions of VLC's transcoder.
I installed VLC 3.0.0 as recommended in some obscure help forum and I got the missing 3 seconds back!

Videos are now uploaded, though the test playback makes me look like a tweaker! Real jittery.

Anyway.......problem resolved! Thanks!

is there a file size limit on uploading .mp4 files?

I was having trouble uploading and I had to cut 30 sec down to 10 but also could not upload if it was saved as HEVC.
I tried saving it as H.264 and then it worked

this is using a samsung galaxy S24 Ultra

I tested this sometime back using some short sample videos I found online. All but one of those HEVC samples failed to upload. It seems HEVC implementation is either very early or extremely picky.
