Thinking my Journey was wood and it wasn't (I shoud have looked at it instead of assuming) I took it to the carwash to try and spray off the paint. Luckly it didn't take much paint off so that area will not be affected. But around the bottom it is already sweeling some. I have it in the sun to dry it. Anything else I can do or am I Out of Luck?

Thanks Steven

Boards and clamps and leave it on the for a hell of a long time is your only hope.

It shouldn't swell anymore, however, once Particle board dries, it becomes very brittle. If it's not too bad, I would leave it alone.

Worse case, you might have to dig out the brittle parts and bondo, depending on where it is.

Just take your time and think it though as you could make it worse by trying to fix it.

A friend of a friend who had a Burgertime that was painted red used his power washer and it came right off. he suggested that a carwash might work as well. I have been using paint stripper but it is expensive and takes a lot of it.

What? Are you new?

I just used this on the Taito cab I'm working on. Mine had mild water damage.

Burgertime is a plywood cabinet though.

Even then I still wouldn't take it to the car wash.

Me either. But I guess this is one of those lessons in life. In this case it may be an easier lesson than assembling a Journey only to find out it isn't any fun anyways, so maybe it's for the best.

I bought a Palm Sander but it doesn't do squat as far as removing paint. I didn't get a expensive one. But I may try some more of the paint remover as I can now take the cabinet outside.

How about a heat gun and a scraper....It wont be fun but it should take it off...It may help dry that thing out also...

Good luck See me MATT

Ummmm, what? I don't think water and arcade cabinet should be used in the same sentence. YIKES. let that thing dry out good. Then use some Minwax wood hardener. Then strip it.

Oh, before another thread gets started on the effects of using water based latex causing it to swell as well, I'd strongly suggest using oil based primer and top coat on that Journey as well.

You need to use low grit - like 80 or 100 or something. A good orbital sander or belt sander will strip those quick

If you're going to sand it, the belt sander is the only way to go. Get an adjustable speed sander, it's much nicer than a one speed. I just stripped down a tempest cabinet that had the sides painted black, and it took about 30 minute for both sides...
