Hello,
I have a CP that was drilled into for a conversion, and would like to patch up the holes (as any person would do).
I am a complete novice at this kind of repair and need some help.
I've heard that you can use bondo, but wouldn't it be easily broken off if someone hit it hard? Is there something else you have to use?
Thanks.

i've got a metal CP i have this same issue with...its a challenger that was converted to time pilot and left with the original holes still in it. I've not been able to find a new one, repro, or used time pilot cp...so, i'm going to get some sheet metal of the same thickness and just drill out some holes that are 1 inch and then take the center part from that and fill in the holes on my CP and bondo the inserts in place...it should be plenty strong enough once it sets up.

It's not my first choice, but since i cant find a replacement it will have to do.

I poured JB weld in the holes from the underside and used packing tape reinforced with cardboard on the top. Once the hole is full of JB weld, I tossed on a small piece of metal cut from an electical box. This bonds to the underside of the panel and the patch cannot be knocked out. Once its dry, flip it right side up and remove the tape. I got a very smooth finish that required very little sanding.

yea for the metal panel definitely weld it. lincoln mig welders are your friend, just find a bunch of stuff to practice on first, it's mainly a feel more than anything when it comes to welding.

As for wood CP's i have 3 i need to repair, and i haven't decided how i want to go about doing it, i hear bondo should work but i think i want something a little stronger, I've heard of the dowel method too but imo the best way to do that would be with one of those cool countersinking jigs (where u drill a hole so the screw can go in at an angle and still be flush i can't think of the name of it right now). Otherwise i'm just going to get some dowel rod that's the size of the hole and glue it in with either glue or bondo.

2 of the panels were cut for trackballs so a large piece of wood would have to be cut and fit closely to the size of the hole (strength with this one is a must as the hole is a good amount larger).

For wood Cps, I have used 1/4" plywood as a veneer. I took my electric planer, and removed enough material from the cp to get it the correct thickness, then glued it on. Used wood filler to smooth the gap. This was a williams Make Trax hacked up panel.

Why not cover with a new overlay and then put plexiglass on top with only the holes drilled that you need?

This is a very common way of dealing with it.

For wood cp's dowels are the only way to fill holes.
You can get dowels precut for small holes and longer rods for the bigger ones.
You can even cut blocks for square holes like those on a Stargate cp.
If you cant' find the right size dowel for the hole then drill out the hole to accommodate one slightly larger and glue the dowel in place.
Bondo over after it is dry and you will never have to worry about it again.
I completely filled in a Stargate cp using dowels and then redrilled it for a Mulit Williams cp. It came out perfect.

Thanks for all the replies.
Sadly I do not have access to a welder (I have a metal CP), so I might just buy a new CP off of some one here on the forums. I need a Pacman CP, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
(It also looks like it is a Galaxian CP, so I might as well change it.)
Thanks.

take the CP to a local body shop or a local welding shop and see how much they'd charge you first if you can (it shouldn't be much maybe 20-40$).

JB Weld is your friend.

I used a 4-1/2" angle grinder with a cut-off disc to cut out the hack-up portion of the CP. I bought a piece of 6"x24" 16ga steel plate from Lowe's or Home Depot, drilled the holes where I wanted them and JB Welded the result to the original CP. I used Bondo and sanding with a flap disc on the grinder and hand-sanding block to feather the surfaces together. Once it was primed and painted and I slapped a repro adhesive CPO on, it looked brand new.

I considered this vs the JB Weld. I suppose this method would be prefered, but my method was rock-solid.
