desolder it. well. I've done this with a shack bulb before, I wound up killing solder pads doing it (for the ones where the traces are on the component side of the board) -- this becomes a slight headache cause then you have to pick the traces open on the top, solder 30 gauge wire to them, and feed the wire through the hole to solder to your new ribbon cable pins.
I've since done probably 12 of these and the input cables with a Hakko FR300 and my life has improved significantly since then.
the real secret is you have to go over all the solder joints with your soldering iron first, adding new solder. then I swoop in with the vacuum and in most circumstances, touching the desolder tip to the pins and spinning them around while using the vacuum, the holes will clear out clean and theoretically it just falls out.
