How to remove control panel overlay on a metal control panel

HOW TO REMOVE CONTROL PANEL OVERYAY ON A METAL CONTROL PANEL:

Mapp gas. Took me less than 10 minutes to get my CPO off.

Burn the cpo with Mapp gas "real good", and take a putty knife and just wipe the burnt remains right off, quick buff with the wire wheel and your down to clean bare metal and done in less that 20 minutes total. .

I recomend having the 4ft hose on your mapp gas can, makes it allot easier. . Total investment in mapp gas and hose $20 at homedepot. . . 1 bottle lasts a long time, and i use it for a million other things. . .

Hope this helps somebody. . .

Iam just glad I didnt get a ticket from the spelling police. . .

Cpo

I prefer to use citrastrip. It's a bit more environmentally friendly and doesn't involve breathing in a lot of toxic fumes. I pull off as much of the CPO as possible then apply citrastrip and let it sit overnight. Most CPOs come off quite easily.

+1 for Citristrip.

easiest thing on the planet. fire up grill, throw on cp, open beer, come back in an hour. cp is gone.

i'd say throw it on a real charcoal grill though that can be fully cleaned out after.

Throw it on the grill, drink 18 beers, come back in a week when i remember that i put it on the grill to begin with, and presto. . its all done. . . . Repeat as needed. . .

this stuff is great for rusty spots:

http://www.ospho.com

its great for stopping rust. chemically changes the rust and stops it dead. expensive but worth it. i use it on anything metal thats rusty.

we use to use it on dumpsters. paint it on, wait 30 minutes and paint. rust is gone.

Heat gun and putty knife will strip the old overlay very quickly. Follow that up with some Citristirp. Wait 24 hours and all the glue and whatever else remains just scraps right off. I just did 4 panels this weekend this way and it was no problem.

If you peel up a corner then apply lacquer-thinner to the bottom seam of the overlay where it's peel-up, the overlay will peel off like skin on a 3rd degree burn.

But the stuff should be used with the appropriate precautions.
