All,

As discussed in some threads Bob has had a pretty bad accident.

I started looking at a few charity sites to raise money and their fees are between 7-9%.

People have talked about raising money to buy him a bike. What would the community be more comfortable with? One member accepting donations and then making big donation to Bob (providing proof to all members in transparent way) or having a 3rd party website take fees but manage fund?

Sounds like Bobs got medical bills. I'm wondering if we should just give him a donation check with a card signed with names of all donors instead of buying an item he may or may not want to use?

I am willing to take the lead on everything... but I want to know the best way people feel comfortable getting on board.

If the decision is to get him a bike, then I'd be happy to help purchase locally and deliver to his house if having one shipped directly isn't viable. I'll contribute to either cash or a gift.

I think he'd be less likely to turn down an actual bike brought to him... But you know him personally... How do you think he'd react?

My impression is that he'd refuse money, but not a gift. If everyone really wants to do cash, then getting Alice's input is the way to go.

I nominate barristr to collect the money and purchase/ deliver the bike. With that handle I assume he is an attorney and am sure that if he holds client trust funds on a daily basis he can surely be trusted to hold a few hundred for this purchase. I will pledge $20 PayPal, more if we come up shodt. Let's make a decision about what we are gonna do and make it happen.

Count me in. I think the recumbent bike (or something similar) would be better. He could then ride it inside where it's air conditioned. However, you probably should check with Alice first to see if it's something he even wants.

Damn, that sucks. Was just reading about his accident. I'm in for a donation. A recumbent bike sounds good. While obviously safer, indoor stationary bikes are boring. Probably why Bob rides outside in the first place.

I think a gofundme page makes sense.

Bob might have a lot of bills to pay plus he might not be able to get on a bike for a while.

Leave it up to Bob I say.

I agree with this, I'm in to help.
