How to play Konami's X-Men (3 button) on your TMNT (2 button) cabinet

Or really, how to play a 3-button game on a 2-button control panel.

So I have a dedicated 4-player TMNT cabinet (4 joysticks and 2 buttons each), and I wanted to be able to play X-men on it. As we know, X-men has 3 buttons (attack, jump, mutant power). I didn't want to drill another hole on my CP (no way!), or have a button on my joystick, or use MAME, etc. I wanted an elegant solution so my existing buttons be able to accommodate:

Button 1: Attack
Button 2: Jump
Button 1+2: Mutant power

So I asked the awesome DogP for help, and he had an instant answer. Below is what he came up with, and it works beautifully. We wanted to share it with you guys just in case you were interested. This mod can be applied to other games as well.

INSTRUCTIONS

The circuit you're trying to make is BTN1 OR BTN2 outputs to BTN3 (open collector). The 74LS32 has 4 OR circuits, and the 74LS07 has 6 open collector buffers.

So, you simply connect button 1 and button 2 to the inputs of one of the OR gates, and connect the output of that to the input of one of the open collector buffers, then the output of the buffer to the BTN3 input on the JAMMA board. And of course you need to connect VCC to +5V and GND to GND.

Very useful in multi-JAMMA set ups. Hope this helps!
