How to modify GROVEY GAME DOMINUX 8 for metal or cocktail cabs

Thought i would share this, wasn't exactly sure where to put it at. So i just went to general because its not a restoration, its a replacement new sort of reproduction for a wico leaf style l

Heres the link to the stick

http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=407

They offer the stick in short and tall versions 4-8 ways or 8 way smooth circular which I bought 2 of for a multi cocktail Galaxian style to have some verity and save space.

I bought the short versions which just were not short enough to have room under the glass, and mounted in the metal style panels... i had to deconvert with a ton of holes in them...

So i welded them up, and modified the shafts to be shorter and i thought i would share so there would be something to see on a Sunday night on klov, lol

I had some cheap knockoff sticks that were at the hight i wanted but i hate, in most cases micro switches.. most cases..

Heres the hight i needed and the hight of my dominux 8 sticks for comparison

So heres how I modified them...

I took a vernier caliper using the depth gauge and made comparison....

And found that the shorter stick was

Little over 1/2 inch .580....

So, you can probably do this if your careful with out having access to the tools i do and own, but this will give you an idea of maybe how to try it if you like

I disassembled the shafts and then chucked them up in a lathe, thats twice as old as i am, or the same age as Arcrival, love you dave!!! Miss you homie!!

Now this is really important for you to know... credence clear water revival must be playing loud when using a lathe....

I used split mill blade and a end cut blade

down the shaft till i removed the .580

And ran it down flat.... now a savy person could simply just cut it straight other ways also...

So heres comparison to before and after shaft cut down

Lots of lube!!!

Now that both were cut even

I filed them flat by hand, not sure i have a pic of that but once i did, i chucked back up in the lathe to center drill...

So i had to determine the size of the center to drill based on the thread pitch and size of the original and what I believe is Industry standard for all of these ball tops, and that is m6x1.0

I double checked that with a tap

Actually thats a thread restore tap but i didn't want to put my sharp tap in the brass

So knowing the size of a stud i would have to reinsert with those threads M6x1.0 i cross reference using google and found i think was a #5 drill

http://www.gearhob.com/eng/design/drill_eng.htm

A number 5 is .2055. The closest fractional drove it slightly smaller than that was a 13/16 at .2031 i think is what i used

And drilled out the centers

Once i had them drilled i used a M6 x 1.0 tap and tapped the holes...

Once i tapped both holes, insert a dirty joke here, I checked to make sure that a M6x1.0 would fit and it fit real nice..

I kinda had to figure out how much stud should pop out of the shat so i did a little mock up

If you notice I installed the die on the stud before i cut it off, and the reason for that is to repair the threads after they are cut off with a cut off wheel

I used the allen head to install, with red loctite, into the shaft, installed the die and cut it off..
