Can someone tell me how to measure a lock? I am coming up with three different measurements and would like to know how people measure them.

In arcade games I've worked on, there tend to be only two different size locks: short and long. They have the same diameter, flats, and square for the cam... the difference is the length of the threaded housing. I think they're commonly known as 7/8" and 1 1/8" , but I'm not certain exactly where that length measurement is made.

Yours looks like a 1 1/8" to me. You can often find this type of replacment lock at hardware stores.

You measure the length of the barrel of the lock. Measure from the rear of the head to the end of the threaded barrel. The one you have pictured is a 1-1/8" long one.

Common lengths in the coin-op industry are:

5/8" (a.k.a. "short" )

7/8" (a.k.a. "normal" )

1-1/8" (a.k.a. "long" )

These are called cam locks in the business. In the hardware store they may be called "drawer" locks.

cam locks are measured for length from the shoulder of the lock to the front of the cam.
the mounting square on the back is generally proprietory to each manufacturer so the shape and size will vary.
the diameter is across the threads not the flats, they are available in three diameters. (you have a 3/4 diameter lock in the picture).
