Guys,

Another thing that always has me baffled. Does any WG 7000 series chassis work on any size WG tube as long as the neck board fits?

I just repaired a 7000 chassis with the bigger neck connector - 10 pin. I put it on a 25" tube and the picture is only about the size of a 19". I can adjust it vertically, but not enough horizontally to fit the whole tube. Does that mean it was for a 19" tube? Is it ok to use it on a 25 anyway?

I know that all the chassis with the tiny neck connector must be for 19s, but how do I tell what size tube a chassis is intended for? There are so many different chassis boards it seems to me... I just learned that some chassis have 123V B+ and others have 130V B+....does that have anything to do with which tube they use? What are the rules?

I'm confused (again)!!!!

Thanks,
John

The width coil on the 25" version of the 7000 is tall and nicotine white with exposed copper windings. The 19" chassis looks the same but will have a smaller dark gray width coil with a ferrite shield that covers the copper winding. You have a 19" chassis on a 25" tube and though it works, your image is as large as it's gonna get. there are other differences between the two but this should be the giveaway. Though a bit more rare, wells did also use a 10 pin neckboard on some of their monitors and these chassis were usually the beige colored zenith version.

Thanks for the info!

Oddly, this chassis does have the tall white width coil....but still is too small on the 25". Is there any other reason a picture would be too narrow?

The 19" chassis has a number on it - P4xx - and the 25" chassis has a number on it - P5xx. That's how you know the difference. The neckboards are interchangeable, so you could swap a 25" 10-pin neckboard to a 19" 8-pin chassis, and use the 19" chassis with a 10-pin tube rather than an 8-pin tube.

As for it being matched with the right tube and the horizontal being too small (but vertical is fine), you can change it by changing the size of C38...

Wow, you know your stuff! Thanks!

So just to clarify, is it ok to use a P4xx with a 25" if I change C38?

no the 4xx series chassis is for 19 inch tubes... itll work ok on a 25, but pic will be small..

theres ALOT of differences between thw 25er and 19 incher, caps, width coil, voltage regulators, the way c36 is hooked up, etc etc etc etc

too many differences to "convert" it to 25.. ive tried swapping caps etc and all ive ever managed to do was ruin a perfectly good 19 inch chassis...

Thanks a lot guys....this is very useful information. My hatred of 7000s is starting to recede...
