I picked up a SI (that's giving me issues in another thread atm) and most of the cab is in great shape, only real gripes are that the previous owner cracked off all the wood bars on the vents in the upper back panel, the top corner of the cab is chewed a bit, and that some of the stenciled artwork has a few smallish gouges on one side and some light scratches on the other. Surprisingly enough the metal plate on the CP and the kickplate art (is that the name for the art on the front under the coin door?) is untouched

any opinions on how I should handle the scratched artwork? Should I find some stencils and repaint the whole damn thing or just touch up the light stuff (aside from patching the gouges, those I might need to repaint)?

And while I'm at it, do SI cabs usually have black specks of paint throughout the entire blue section of the cab? And anyone know how to replicate that effect because it looks badass

Pics will be posted when I have access to the cab (tomorrow)

Id redo the whole thing after proper repair.
The black is normal, the splatter can be replicated using a toothbrush with paint and "thumbing" the bristles.

Yea I had feeling I'd end up redoing the whole damn paint job, until I went to thisoldgame and saw the price on a stencil set, holy penor man!

Since I'm not gonna be doing any painting for the winter months (no room), I'll be tracing up the artwork and making my own stencils and such I guess. There's no way I'd throw up a decal set on there, I like the look of the paint too much lol

And thanks for the tip about the toothbrush paint technique! Now all I need is a way to patch up the marquee and I've got my gameplan cut out for me

The splatter technique has mostly been written about regarding pinball restoration, as it was used on Gottlieb and Bally cabinets for decades. Google that kind of thing or search thru the rec.games.pinball archives.
