how to get plastic covering off metal control panels

the space invaders i recently got has an old repro'd control panel metal overlay that came with it. anyways, it's got old old plastic covering on it that has since 'dried' on in such a way i'm having to scrape it off.

i can't get it off any of the colored parts, only the plain metal. anyone experienced this before and know what to use to get it off?

will that damage the paint of the letters, though? i've been scraping with a plastic scraper and i scraped off a little bit of a couple letters and whatnot.

Yeah, if your trying to preserve artwork underneath don't use the torch. The torch method should only be used when trying to completely strip the CP down to the bare metal.

Ok, not the best idea, but a little heat may help.. But I honestly don't have a good suggestion. Best of luck tho

Not sure if it will work for this but, when I need to remove decals that I want to save from metal parts I place them in a chest freezer for 48 hours and they normally separate from the metal easily and in one piece.

i'll try freezing and then water, and then a heat gun... at this point gonna be tomorrow. the thing is it's so stuck on there you can't get it off on the colored portions, however it'll peel off the metal parts real easy. i'll update on how it works.
