How to do the final (edge) convergence on a color CRT

It's getting hard to find them actually. A local TV repair shop may have them.

In fact, I'm looking for a good source for them as well. I was very kindly helped on the BYOAC forum getting these but I guess I will need (lots) more of them in the future.

Great you were able to film all that.. makes a huge dif to see it beeing done than to read about it. Looks like you got that one to turn out well!

p.s. I believe VDC still sells those strips.. (the ones I send with the amp crt's). If not Hawkeye Picturetube may as well... I cannot rememeber but one had the wedges, and the other had the strips, but not both.

Totally forgot ! I e-mailed Hawkeye about it and indeed I could remember he had one of both but forgot about it later. Here is his answer:

I can get the convergence strips but the wedges are no longer made unless you want to purchase 50,000 or more, the strips are .30 cents apiece in quantity.

I wonder what quantity he means....

awesome vid. takes skill to do that AND work the camera AND do it without seeing it. :)

I've seen those strips on monitors before, always wondered what they do. I have a 27" dual mode that has the same exact problem in the upper left corner. you only notice it when it's a pure black screen when the game's first booting up though -- it's COMPLETELY unnoticeable in-game for some reason. maybe because the tube is warmed up by then, who knows.

that's actually one of my project monitors. a goofy Toshiba out of a Konami dance game. the HOT was nuked on it.

what do you do if the whole outer edges of the screen look out of whack though? I have 2 Hantarex Polos with almost the same problem where the red looks like it's got like a minor ghost effect. I'm not gonna mess with it cause it's not that bad, but is that where you adjust the red purity rings?

Thanks for showing how this was done. I always thought that it was some set of adjustment knobs. I would assume that all/most CRT's are converged this way? I never realized that you needed to purchase extra parts to do this. Anyway, good job.

wow. that would explain why ive never gotten the convergence in my race drivin perfect..

i need to get me some of those!!!!!
