How to discharge a monitor and remove the chassis and neck board on a 4900 - N00b

I had to pull the 4900 in my Moon Patrol tonight so I decided to film the discharging of the monitor and removal of the chassis.

I know this is very basic info for most of everyone here but at one time this was a big mystery to me. So, hopefully some find this vid helpful!

Wow that is A LOT safer than the ol' stand in a puddle of water and stick your finger in the suction cup hole removal method...........JK, thanks for the video, good job.

I did the same thing, but I used heat-shrink tubing... I hate electrical tape....

I also grounded down the part of the screwdriver I attached and soldered the ground lead to...

The best thing I did was buy a high voltage probe.. It will tell you if their is still electricity under the suction cup. The screwdriver is good don't get me wrong, but I would like to know for sure if there is current in tube.

You hold buy one for each of us!

Just kidding, but if you feel so inclined......

I want one but it just hasn't been in the budget yet, other stuff keeps it from rising to the top of the list.

Yeah, I said the same thing. But when i tried to discharge my first monitor and didnt hear the pop. It wasnt worth it to me to assume it was discharged. so, thats when i decided to get one. I have bad luck as it is, getting jolted would have topped the cake for me. lol

One note everyone should hear is some monitors when discharged without a load (resistor) can blow out the high voltage diode. One example is the monitors in games like Space Invaders.

Yea, if you don't hear a pop, you better be double checking you grounding wire to make sure it's properly attached to the frame and screwdriver.

If you the power hasn't been applied for a while, then it could have self discharged, but don't bet on it, double check.

Thanks, this will come in handy in the future. Always enjoy watching your vids.
BTW: Can't get that Tapper music outta my head. lol

It's funny how that Tapper attract sound dominates so many of my vids. It's like the theme song of my basement. I actually don't mind it. :)

I cut the cord off an old lamp I found on garbage night, cut the plug off and split the wire into 2 and put alligator clips on each end.
