I have what was formerly a Donkey Kong cabinet made in Washington, so it's particle board. I want to convert it to a Vs machine, with horizontal instead of vertical mounting points. It's crucial that I get this right, because the next step will be to apply laminate. Does anyone have a guide to figuring this out based on reference points?

Nintendo used to send out a drill template with the Vs and maybe the Popeye kits. I would bet somebody's got one of those laying around. Otherwise I can get you measurements sometime this weekend although that's a lot of measuring for the three bolts.

I did a similar conversion with a Japanese plywood cab. It's been a long time, but I recall using the same holes and not having to do any drilling. Is it needed because you have a USA cab?

Some of the DK/DK Junior cabs only had the two bolt holes drilled into the upper back of the side panels for the vertical mounting brackets. The horizontal brackets required three more bolts drilled further down the cab closer to the center of the cab sides. If those extra holes weren't drilled (which obviously this guys are not), you would need to drill them yourself.

I switched my Popeye to vertical. I installed the monitor and drilled from there. No measurements were taken.

I am currently restoring a Donkey Kong that has all of the holes. If it helps, I can put a tape measure across and give you the dimensions. I could also pick up a couple pieces of poster board and make a template for you. As of right now, all of those holes are exposed so it would be pretty easy. I'm going to be putting the bolts and the monitor back in very shortly though so let me know.

So the ones made in Japan have 5 holes and the ones made in the U.S. have less?

My machine is a Japanese plywood. It has the 2 holes for the vertical bracket. Then 3 unused holes on the side (each hole has a carriage bolt in it). I assume Nintendo just made them this way so they could put whatever monitor in they needed to.IMG_6155.jpeg
