How to: Copying cabinets for reproduction

i have been very busy.. have a cab pickup tomorrow, going to michigan tomorrow to drop off a game, pick up a game, and another cab pickup in a week. Once i get a minute, i'll work on this some more.

i am currently reproducing my bosconian that was swollen, whole 1ft+ all round bottom.

the cabs now standing (has been for a couple of weeks now) i reproduced all the parts bar 3.basicly all the main pieces i hand routed from the old.

it was indeed using tenons for strenght, what i did was drill an hole through the tenong joint, then with a flush trim router bit i actualy bought specialy for the job i took the tenons all the way through, then i laid that side on a precut side that was router copied from the original, laid the old with the tenons cut all the way through and clamped it and then routered through that using it as a guide.

attached a couple of pics so you get the idea of what i did.

the only bits i didnt make were, the 2 pieces of wood that the glass will sit on,the cp back, where the glass rests and the wood the monitor screws to.

Brett is a great asset to the hobby and does great work. A shot I got of him in action when I was up there about two years ago picking up a bunch of stuff I had him make for me..

Nice to put a face to the words....I like dealing with Brett. Says it like it is, and makes F'N bitchin repros.

Cant wait to get my repro Pole Position cab.

heh I don't have that awful haircut anymore... I quit cutting my hair 2 1/2 years ago.

That's really impressive work! Your dropbox link is raster. Do you still have it as vector?

it was actually a victim of people being assholes on here, so i stopped with it. Photobucket changed their storage limits, and i was over.. got tired of emails from them, so i nuked most of it.

Did anyone save this content in its entirety (with photos) somewhere else? Shame that it was a victim of Photobucket changes...

I downloaded and linked everything back in 2015. I referenced it all back to KLOV and the post date.... but if dptwiz wants me to delete it, I can. I was concerned about it disappearing as well back then. I am starting to hoard content in my private grail diary section in case I need it later.

Anyway, the link is here.....

no, by all means, do what you want with it, add to it, i have no issue with it. At the time, i had people making smart ass comments and completely pissed me off, i was doing this for the community and some people had to ruin it. I still copy cabinets all the time. Just did mspac cabaret, starting on Galaga cabaret, and i have Mach 3 Cockpit, Spyhunter Cockpit, Track and Field cocktail, Dig Dug, and few others here.

I'm definitely interested in something like this at least for some cabinets, having measurements, templates, etc. since I have all the tools including table saw. I think it's fine to have 100% original in the purest sense, but these were all built on an assembly line in the first place and could have had slight deviations from one to the next, so making a duplicate should be fine as long as the materials, lines and details are copied over. Probably need enough detail and pictures. Maybe even some improvements could be done as well :) It's not going to be easy on special cabinets like star wars, battlezone, environmental discs of tron, etc

Building arcade cabinets is no easy task..having a table saw and appropriate tools is just the beginning..cutting the pieces is the easy part..fitting them together is a whole nother story..plus you need lots of time...pretty tough to knock a few out over a long weekend.

Good luck with your quest.

Yes I know but don't think I will bother for original games unless I can't find a deal or trade eventually for something I wanted. The materials alone can add up and as you point out time, so if I can find even an empty cab for $50-$100 or so that's better although shipping is another thing to consider.
But really assembling is no big deal though IMO, I've done woodworking before and working on a garage floor with plenty of space and lots of clamps seems appropriate for this kind of stuff. But I think it is very likely I will only be making my own cabinet for something like mame, I just cant see taking a pacman or asteroids or something and throwing a pc in it, or putting something like an RPI in anything bigger than a bartop footprint
