hello, i am expecting a yoke for my G07 monitor in the mail soon, and i have run into a major problem: i don't know how to change a yoke! is it a simple matter of unscrewing and screwing in? or do i need a soldering iron or any other special tools?

There will be a clamp on the monitor neck holding the yolk in. Just loosen the clamp and slide off, job done.

When replacing the yolk, you will have to set it up and aligned correctly so do not tighten too much until the picture is spot on.

its not safe to adjust the yoke when the machine is on, is it?

Count the number of turns it takes to loosen the clamp. That way you won't over-tighten it and crack the tube.

Also, the existing yoke may be stuck from years of heat. After loosening the clamp, I very carefully and gently wiggle the yoke to try to get it to slide towards me. If it's stubborn (and I have the time) I will squirt common household spray cleaner along the tube neck to get it under the yoke to loosen it up. Sometimes I use lighter fluid if there's adhesive that's oozed up from the white glass cloth tape applied to the glass tube neck.

Remember, you also have to slide the convergence rings off the neck before you can get the yoke off.

okay, thanks for the help...but how do i take the convergence rings off? will i have to put them back on when i get the new yoke, or does every yoke have its own rings?

Convergence rings have a screw in a hose clamp type setup. These must be carefully slid off and they will be stuck from years of heat.

Be gentle with them as they must be put back on the same tube they come off of. Plus they must be put back in the same position so mark the location on the tube with a Sharpie or pencil. Most monitor manufacturers put a glob of hot melt glue across the rings to keep them from accidently being rotated out of alignment. Sometimes that line of glue falls off. Anyway, be sure you have the rings maked somehow in case they get bumped/twisted out of place. Some people run a line of nail polish across the rings as an indicator of where they are supposed to be set.

Every TUBE has it's own rings. The yoke should stay with the chassis.

Rings are tuned to the tube. Yokes can be swapped.

so, should i mark where the rings are before i take the yoke off so i know where to place them? do i need to take the rings off before i take off the yoke?

thanks. when i get my yoke, i'll be sure to remember the stuff you guys told me...but i might need some additional help. good think i've got the KLOV forums on my side! thanks guys!
