So, im getting closer on my "arcade" . Its modest - about 600 or so sq ft with (at the moment) 27 working games. drywall is up (not finished), most lighting is done, and no carpet or ceiling as of yet. So yah, its just a room(s) with some games in it at this point.
So I was thinking id like to have a party soon, but is it PC to have one before Im done? Then, when its done, how often is to often to host a party? once a month? every 3 months? every 6?
Obviously its up to me and the boss (wife), but what good is having it if you cant share it right?

I would have one every weekend if I knew locals who were as interested in the games as I am. (and when I say locals I mean folks within 20 mi)

yah, I hear you. If I was still up north where I knew more hobbyists I would. I'm hoping to have 1 a month or so - just didn't want it to become redundant or overkill. Plus im getting ansy to have one - gmaes are working, just the room isnt - lol!

I would definitely do it now while the games are working, because more often than not it's the other way around!!! (you plan it and get people there and games cut out on you)

As I drove by the bowling alley last night, it occurred to me that the only reason those things are still in business is because of leagues.
Those freaking leagues go 11 months at a time.

Someone should start a video game league. Make teams, throw in cash, compete on several titles.

I digress

Pinheads do it...

If my wife and I move to the Charlotte area here in the next two to four years, I'll be down to coming over to Greenville for an arcade party. I've got two high school friends over there, too.

I'll also be having my own parties if we make this move because I'll have the space. And if we don't move, I'll get the space out here in Cali.

I've got around 22 games or so, and I'm looking forward to having them all set up and having people over.

Hope it works out for you.

realistically, you should throw an arcade party not more than once a month, in my opinion.

In fact, I think its best to throw them every three months.
That way there's a definite build-up from your friends, family, fellow gamers to do it agian. At my house throwing a party is maybe twice a year. Having careers, children, illnesses, travel, finances, and of course distance from anyone near me all contribute to my ho-hum invitations for this sort of thing.

Once a year for me. For me to plan and pray that my Halloween Arcade Party goes smooth without any incidents is good enough for me. :)

For me, it's typically a couple times a year. I have one with fellow collectors and then with my other friends who aren't into the hobby, but like playing.

About every 3 months or so is about right. If you have some close friends you can invite them over more often, but if it is more than once every 3 months, people start to slack off.

I don't think I will ever have an "arcade" to be honest. I've thought about getting carpet and walls but then I think that money could go into the games instead and that's where it goes. I just have a basement with games in it I guess. :D

As far as parties... I'm with the "maybe once or twice a year" group. With a wife and kiddos there just isn't time to plan them every month or even three months.

I have extremely high interest and I am in Maryland also but being that your location reads: some-a-ware in maryland how do we know where you are? I may be within 20 miles of you if not I am willing to take a drive. Game obsessers like me are always willing to go the distance.

I always throw an arcade party on Halloween, and that's always seemed to be enough for my family and friends.

However, since acquiring the pins, I've been repeatedly informed that once-a-year will no longer do, and I figure we'll start having parties every 4 months or so.

Yessir. And you need to start a thread about your upcoming party on the 23rd so we can see how many Valley residents we have on here! ;)

i so far have not, but it's hard having like a 7 x 10 'room' for my games. once i have an actual game room, and fill it up, i think i'll have parties a lot.

Man, that's a great question and thread.

I don't want to 'burn' people out by having them come over all of the time.
So I have 4-6 parties a year, BUT I have two different group of people I invite over. My co-workers is one group of about 20 people and then a group of relative, friends and their friends, about 10-15 people. It works out well.

Although lately, Rock Band on my PS3 gets more play than any arcade or pinball machine during parties.
