How often do leaf switches die?

After getting some new ROMS I finally have my Tron 99% working. Thought I would be able to play tonight but there is still a minor issue: the left input on the joystick is not responding. All other buttons, directions, and spinner work.

I cleaned the corresponding leaf switch for the left input on the joystick, removed the switch, redid the solder joints and wiring and am still getting no response which leads me to believe the switch is bad. I have no spare leaf switches laying around, just microswitches. So then I tried wiring the wires to a micro just to test and still got no response, I even flip flopped the NO and COM wires just to make sure they were in the right spot and still nothing.

All wires to the control panel and everywhere else are fully plugged in.

I remember the moving the light cycles left when my ROMS were glitchy so I'm pretty sure it was working just a few days ago. The only part I have tinkered with since then is the PCB but I doubt this is causing the issue.

Anyone know if this is simply a bad switch or something else?

can you just disconnect the wires and short them together to see if you can move left? that would be the easiest test to tell you where th eproblem is.
