A buddy of mine has a friend who is looking to sell a non working Asteroids. Condition is great except that it is not working. It powers up but the screen is dead (not too concerned about getting it up again)

He does not know what he wants for it so, in the opinion of the forum, what would be a fair price to offer?

Thanks so much

Does it play blind (can you hear the game playing)? Do the P1 and P2 LEDs blink?

With the info provided ... and not being able to SEE the physical condition of the cab (how are the sides... CPO... bezel/marquee... etc...it's hard to make a determination.

If it's in nice shape and plays blind, it's worth a lot more than $100, but if you can get it for that, great. It's a given that the deflection and HV PCBs will need recapped, have cracked solder joints, etc..Easy and cheap fix if that's all it is.

Working and non working ones can be had for about $100-$150 here in WI. It is probably different where you are but I personally would not pay more than $125 for it as long as it is in relatively good shape.

I look at it this way. If I factor in all the little stuff does it make sense to buy it as it is or wait for a fully functioning one. Just an example, if you buy it for $200 but have to dump another $200 or more into then is it worth it to you? I am sure you can find one for $400 or less for a working one if you wait a bit.

The last 3 asteroids working that I have sold, went for $400 or less.. I buy non working for $100..

If the board works that's worth $90-$100 all day long alone. A working G05-80X is worth another $125+ and $75-$100 non-working.

Its worth more in parts, thats for sure.. Alot of machines are like this.. Space Duel for example.. Its hard to get $400 out of a working machine, but parted the monitor is worth $300 alone..

nonworking asteroids...

$100 any day of the week up to $200 if you really want it (not to flip)

Notes:
Cap kit is ~$10
ARII kit is ~$20
Board repair is ~$100

You will only be screwed if the flyback on the monitor is bad. Anything else is fixable.

I've bought several complete, but dead, Asteroids machines over the years at prices ranging from $75 to $125.
