I'm thinking of selling my Asteroids arcade game. This may be one of the nicest examples of this game I've ever seen. It appears to be all original, right down to the owl-type coin doors and is fully-operational. There are no scraches in any of the sideart, no screen burn, the CPO is totally perfect (if anything isn't original, it could be the CPO since I've never seen a machine like this without some marks on the CPO). The game is in Louisiana. Anyone interested? I am thinking of asking $500, but is a collector-quality condition game of this type worth more?

Location makes a huge difference...

I sold my first Asteroids... 8/10 condition... $250.

I sol my second Asteroids... 7/10 condition but it included the Braze high score kit, rebuilt monitor, new full wrap CPO and new buttons for $375.

I've never seen an Asteroids go for more than $375-$400 locally regardless of condition.

I've been trying to sell mine for $350 and getting almost no nibbles for a while now. It's not as minty as yours sounds like but it's certainly in presentable condition. And mine has the high-score save kit installed. I'm located in California....not sure if that means our prices should be higher or lower than where you are.

The machine is located near New Orleans. I wasn't sure what exactly it's worth, but since the multi-game kit probably isn't coming any time soon and the machine is taking up a lot of space, I'm inclined to sell it.

Here's a crappy picture with my cameraphone

I sold one for around 7 or $800 on Ebay, probably 7yrs ago though. It sold high because the edges weren't swollen, sideart near perfect, cabinet in amazing shape, vinyl clean, fully working, original painted control panel was near perfect (cleaned it up with Novus 2 and wax). Only thing I replaced on it was the cardboard bezel, with the Arcadeshop repro. People will pay a premium for a minty, original game, as those are in very limited numbers and some would rather have nice original than restored.

prices mentioned are accurate for average games,
this game looks minty, and is worth more
you should ebay it, i bet it would got for 600+ there
or get in contact with people doing museum type arcades they would pay 600-700 i think

I sold one on saturday that was not as nice as yours for 500.00 on ebay

Asteroids

I have sold 3 in the last 3 months.

$208 Fully working but beat. Let this one go to the highest bidder on Ebay

$475 Very nice fully working.

$400 pretty nice fully working. (got this one from Troy non working)

Ahh, thanks. So it's probably worth my while to take better pictures of it - I haven't even really cleaned it up.

Take LOTS of pictures.

If you do list it on eBay, just remember... you only have to pay for the pictures eBay hosts. Whenever I list something with a lot of pictures, I use a 3rd party image host, like photobucket, and just do a direct link.

if this machine is as good as you say it is, just make sure you can back it all up with pictures. And, if there is something wrong, don't be afraid to mention it.

The bottom line is, the more pictures, and honesty in your description, the better it will sell.

One issue I'm concerned about is having to ship something like this. So many things can happen in transit and be a potential liability. Do you ship a lot of games or sell them to local pickup?

I've never shipped one... but I've seen a lot on here, shipped.

From what I've gathered, and if I ever have to ship one. It will be strapped to a pallet, and have cardboard surrounding it, then it will have plastic/shrink wrap surrounding it.

As well as pictures of the whole process, as it's being wrapped, how it's wrapped, and being loaded.

NAVL seems to be the popular choice for shipping arcades. Just take a lot of pictures, and recommend they insure it.

if you do a ebay sale just say in ad that customer pays navl shipping,
they are a driveway to driveway shipper that will pick it up at your home , wrap it and strap it, and deliver it anywhere in the 48 for about 300-550

Pfft, I just contacted NAVL for a shipment from Rockford, Ill to Leetonia, Ohio and she gave me a quote of $700.00 + for a shipment under 300 pounds.. one game... Bullocks..

Crazy

Thats Crazy. I have shipped games to Arizona and California from Insy for around $400. I wouls call back and check. R&L carriers is a good option if you can pallet it and drop off and pick up at a freight termonal. They are way cheep. Less than $200 from Indy to New York.
