I was bored so I looked at my counters tonight on the games that had them. I got a total of $198,514.25 out of 11 games that had counters.

Not too bad for games that probably cost about 3k each...

EDIT
Note the games didn't make that money for me. I just checked all my counters and multiplied by $.25 to get the total collected from the machines over their lifetime.
Just to be curious about how much cash these things have seen.

interesting post. I have never checked mine. Keep in mind 2 things, though. 1. Meters MAY have stopped working, so your numbers could actually be higher. 2. Meters could have been changed out over the years, so, again, your numbers may be different than you think.

Actually, 3 things. Tests. Many ops, when on location, will run a quarter/token through the coin mech to ensure functionality. One here and there doesn't seem like much, but it'll add up over time. I'd say, figure 10 percent, plus or minus and you're probably ballpark.

Now that you've got me thinking about it, I'll have to check and see how much cash i DIDN'T make over the years, lol.

Most of the older classics needed around 20,000 plays to break even. original cost of $2000 to $2500 and a 50/50 split with the location.

I do have a Cruis'n Exotica here that has over 418,000 clicks on the meter.

Don't forget when the watchdog goes haywire on Atari games and you can coin up 10000 plays or so if you're not there when it happens (to turn it off) - takes about 10 minutes.

the guy who owned my Gauntlet before me had it click off 12 credits per quarter. When you dropped a few in the thing would click for a straight minute.

Otherwise my games range from 40,000-70,000 quarters normally.

Ah but don't forget those Cruis'n games took $1 for a play in the arcades. So four clicks per play but older games took 1 quarter and then there where games that took 2 per play wont change anything with the money it took in but will change the amount of plays the game gave out.

my satan's hollow has $11257.25 thru it, which is kinda surprising, cause it's not the most popular game to some people, and there wasn't a ton made.

I wish I could include my jukebox... I think that machine is around $300,000

I wish I had a counter in my old Pleaidies Cocktail. It can't be high. The thing looked like it never saw an arcade or pizza shop.

I had wondered this myself but quickly dismissed it.
Without knowing the exact day it hit the floor for real business and when it was actually decommisioned there's really no way to even get a rough estimate.
But if you're just looking at the coin counter - then my games have made BANK ;)

Comparing the 5-digit counters on my games to the 6-digit counters at CEC, I would guess that most of, if not all of the counters in most peoples games have rolled over at least once or twice. Some of the games we have at CEC that were bought new 3 years ago have already reached the 200,000 mark.
