How much does an Amplifone add o the value of a game?

I have a Star Wars with an Amp and 2 with WG's....just curious how much you guys think the Amp adds t the value of these things.

I see WG 6100's have sold in the $250 to $350 range. Does that mean I could sell this one on it's own and expect $450 to $550 for it then?

Because they are mid-res instead of low-res
Because they are capable of higher frequencies
Because they have two easy (loose) boards to work on, instead of a clumsy set-up with the HV cage, and wacky transistor positioning.
Because the Amplifone is more reliable once fixed properly.

...but in all reality... there's not a HUGE difference between the two from a "gamers" point of view. Most here couldn't ID one from the other by looking at the screen frankly...

I thought the same thing until I had one of each. Another thing is that the WG will have a bowing around the edges unless you install a screen corrector, right? Are those available now?

Well......ALL the 25" Amplifones have that too. That's why I want one of them...

Frizz: buy some glasses if you can't see the difference. Everyone sees it...

I read something on vectorlist recently about Clay making screen correctors again but I don't remember if they are available yet or not. I should grab a couple if they are.

All I know is I had a 25" Amp and a 19" 6100 side by side...

...aside from SIZE differences... not much else (yes... the bowing... that can really only be detected when the death star blows up but I digress)...

I do think you have to see them side by side to see the difference. And when you do, you will realize why the Amp is worth more. I will go one further, I think an Amp with the Pentran/Lexel/Wintron flyback looks even better than one with the Chinese made flyback.

Granted... I have NOT seen a 19" Amp next to a 19" WG... so perhaps the size of the tube makes the difference... the medium res 25" amp appeared to me to have about the same resolution as the 19" WG... but reduce the size of the tube to 19" and it likely would appear to have a smoother (higher res) image...

I can see the difference AMP is way better IMO. Im comparing mine to the ones at the Seattle Show.

I notice a huge difference in an amp tube vs a 6100 in star wars. Most people don't see the difference because the glass needs to be removed and cleaned as well as the face of the monitor. The Image is much better. In response to the OP question. I think a working amp adds about $300 to the value of a Star Wars upright. Just my personal opinion.

Not all Amplifone vector tubes (ex: Quantum) were medium res and I don't think the 25" tube was.

Uhhh, I cannot say for sure about Quantum, but I can tell you that the 25" Amp tube is DEFINITLY med-res. I've seen several cockpits now, and two have 25" low res tubes with a WG chassis, believe me the difference is HUGE. The pixels are much more fine on the AMP.

Now about the Chinese vs. Wintron/Lexel HVT. Why would that be different, WHAT are the differences and how do you know ?

I mean the "only" thing a HVT does is provide a steady High Voltage DC. Unless it's not capable of staying steady (fi with the death star explosion) ....

That's one thing that's VERY noticeable on my WG....the Death Star explosion totally overdrives the monitor and makes the image swell. Does it do that on all WG's? Or is something wrong with mine? On the Amp it's rock steady during the explosion.
