how much did i pay for a non working pole position?

i must say this whole thing was a blast! after weeks of postings great advice and lots of input, the pole position has made it into the lineup! after rebuilding the power supply, making a new door, painting, repairing, breaking down and a good cleaning, and a grooling move into the basement (which i'll NEVER do again) it's still up and running and looking real cool! thanks everyone and your comments are still welcome!

wow! You did a lot tonight!!! Looks great there!!! Where's the pics of the back door?

when i met the guy selling the machine (oddly enough at dave and busters) he was a friend of a friend. through discussion it came up that i'm a collector, he than said he wants to sell his pole position he said it was the boards. i told him i'd come look at it but rumor was he wanted 500-800 dollars. i told him i really wasn't interested in spending that kind of money for a non-working game. he said just come look at it! i finally got there (unwillingly) and looked at it. after a half hour i pulled the boards (which were redone 3 years ago) looked great, reconnected loose wires, connectors, voltage tests, and than realized that i was in the middle of a service call! i saw that the fuse block was hacked to shit! i packed it up and told him "i'm not trying to insult you but to me it's worth only 100.00. figuring he'd pass, he called me the next day and said come get it. fast forward- i didn't want another project but i said i'll do it for giggles. i replaced the fuse (in the hacked fuse block) the game worked well(for 10 mins.) and it blew. i pulled out the power transformer assembly, replaced the bridge rectifier, the entire fuse block and all the faulty connectors, the ar2 boards (with ones i know that were working) which i had laying around from my crystal castles project, and replaced the fan shroud. so far so good. keep commenting you guys are great!!!

Word on Pole Positions is that they are very problematic....
Seems like the guys that have them recommended upgrading power supplies.

I am going to try the switcher install once I get time on mine.
I'll take pictures and let you know how it goes.

awesome!! wanna see it! i'm just hoping that the parts that were replaced and redone will hold up considering it's on for maybe a half hour at a time as opposed to 10-12 hours bitd!

The big problem is the edge connectors burning up the boards from bad contact. First thing I did to mine was replace the edge connectors on the wiring harness and clean the the boards connectors.

You can feel them (edge connector) heat up when the connection is no good, this causes the power supply to overload and the connector to burn op the boards "fingers".

My Pole Position II has been fine with no problems for over two years so far...

Now you need a dallas chip, and cut the battery off the board to keep the other problem from happening.

Lets hear more about this NES edge connector? Which one are your talking about?

I was referring to the cartridge connector since it's known for it's issues.
It does however connect to the NES board in a similar fashion, but it's all wierd where the cart slides in. Probably would require some serious hacking to get it to work.

I was a joke really. Guess not very funny... :(
