Not sure if anyone else has seen or posted about this, but I thought it was pretty cool. This is how I pictured a Nintendo dedicated (I wish) arcade cabinet should have looked. Granted the cab is a "midget", but the arts and theme are just superb.
This guy built this for use with other stuff as well, but man...just cool as hell. Check out his video from a while back.

That does look pretty awesome. You're right about the full art package on it, it looks much better than just a pair of stickers.

Wow really cool. Thanks for the link. Except for SMB/Duck Hunt, Metroid was the very first NES cart I ever got. What a great game. I still play it every so often.

I scanned the titles and thought 'Metroid' was 'Mattroid' (of KLOV). ;)

EDIT: Thought he was getting a "make over". :)

I just skimmed through the article. Good reads - but I didn't see anything about the cabinet origins. I bet he intentionally left the part out showing the hacking up of a desirable cabinet.

I like it. And the controller ports are a must for Metroid 3 and above, gotta have those shoulder buttons. By far my favorite home console series.

No, he built it from scratch. Pretty much all of the bartops I've seen BYOACers build have been from scratch, and most of the MAME cabinets are built from scratch over there too. The same guy also built a Punch-Out-esque cabinet from scratch (link).

Additionally, that Metroid-themed bartop does not match the contours of any real Nintendo cabinet ever made; plus it is not tall enough from the control panel to the top of the cabinet; neither is it wide enough to have ever been an actual Nintendo cabinet. On top of that, it appears to have been built with 3/4" material (Nintendo cabinets are built with 9/16" or 5/8" material).
