How many vector games were there ?

Supposedly Exidy released Top Gunner in 1986 - http://allincolorforaquarter.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-ultimate-so-far-history-of-exidy_28.html

The story is that Vertigo is basically a prototype version of Top Gunner.

Someone must have had one at some point since it was dumped and is playable in MAME.

The ROM images of Top Gunner came from a pair of non-working boards that an RGVAC member had. I repaired one of the boardsets for him and released the images with his permission. The link below is to Tom's site with screenshots and a pix of the board set. This happened back in July 1998 according to the dates on my files. There is a rumor that there is a complete working TG out there on the west coast.

I know the likelihood of it every happening is next to zero, but I'd LOVE to see an FPGA done for Top Gunner some day so I could build it a real cab! There's a manual going around for Vertigo that shows the controls and while unique they look reproducible.

I looked into this briefly as I have a working 2901 in vhdl, but the game play in mame was boring. Aztarac or cosmic chasm are better candidates.

Just thought I'd bump this to see if there have been any new developments with Rocket Racer or Hovercraft? RR came up in a discussion today so it got me thinking about it.

I came across this page about a prototype 4-player linked cabinet vector game by Williams called Predators -
http://www.retrokade.com/cabs/predators.htm

This definitely sounds like an intriguing game but it's probably lost to time.

Fortunately I can update that one myself, for those whom don't already know (kind of old news at this point) Predators has been found, reconstructed and even made an appearance at CAX. Looks like a REALLY cool game:

Score one for the good guys! Another prototype saved from extinction! :D It survived just by the skin of its teeth too, they had to reverse-engineer missing control boards and have replicas made.

Are there pictures of the boards and their replica parts? Looks like a fun game. Thanks for the links.

Glad to see Nashville make an appearance in the arcade world

Neat. Kinda half what I was expecting. 4player vs spaceships. Going to look at the video in more detail when I got time.

I don't know, I don't recall seeing any, I'd love to see them too. Some of the graphics look suspiciously like what was in Joust 2, so I wonder if the board set is an adaption of that which had been modded to support 4 monitors and controls.

people always say azterac was the only centuri vector but what about ripoff cocktail does that not count? if we call rockola vectors rockola vectors even though they had cinematronics hardware why not say centuri had 2 vectors? also did anyone mention lunar battle as an atari proto i didn't see it

also i see earth friend marked as a color vector but i have reasons to believe it ran on omega race hardware with a custom sound card. last year at pinball expo someone showed me pictures of an earth friend marquee and a plain black omega race control panel with the shaft encoder and harness with different plugs at the sound board. i begged the guy for the parts but he wanted 3k for it and no trades.

For this list to be complete I think the Vectrex should also be included...

:D

hey it says arcade right on the box too lol

what about vector rom hacks at some point there is a fine line between hardware and software. if clay cowgill writes vector breakout for tempest hardware in 1999 is that considered another vector machine similar to how armor attack and starcastle run the same hardware but are 2 different games? obviously these are not considered games by mainstream collectors but they will proudly be in my collection as if they are.

Where are all the VECTOR REMIX?
If DK/DKJr can be remixed, then so should ASTEROIDS (and others). :)

me and Samulis color asteroid hack soon to have speach

and my own mini asteroids hack and switchable never die cheat
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjdVupUGSO0

Clay did a 6 bullet hack and someone did an ebay asteroids hack at one time and if i remember the story right atari had a hacked turtles asteroids in the lobby

i would love to see more and find out about any i don't know about

Nice info, but HACKS are not the REMIXs to which I was referring.
To me, a REMIX, is a code change to modify the game play and graphics.
Perhaps I should have used the term HOMEBREW. I'd like to see some new vector games on arcade hardware (vs on Vectrex hardware). Probably will never happen. :D

Similarly, a REMIX of Gravitar with new planets would be nice.
The never-completed vector ROTJ game playing on SW hardware. That's a cool "REMIX".
