I have a game for sale that a guy with a route called on today. He asked how many plays I have on it and asked that I checked. He made a comment that if it's over 10k that it's been played to hell or something like that. It has 60k on it. lol

Is this considered played to hell? The game is in excellent condition and everything works great. The monitor and everything is in excellent condition both electrically and cosmetically.

Just wanted to get other's input before I call him back because he's probably just making a case to pay me less than our current agreed upon price.

I would say that "# of plays" is a red herring, like HUO and mint, in that you could have a low play game that is beat/damaged and high play games that are nice. Personally I go by condition. Do you have his email? Maybe you can respond with # of plays and some pictures of the machine. A picture is often worth 1000 words.

60 clicks aint high lol.. i have a virtuafighter with like 300,000 clicks on it.. i think my sw trilogy is like 200 something

to me, less then 100k is not even broken in yet :D

Yeah called him and told him the number of plays and he said he's been running a route since 1989 and that's high. It's a crazy taxi and it's in very nice shape.

Yet still wants to look at it.

I asked that the first couple of games I ever bought and realized that it's really a stupid question. The counter could have been unhooked for a period of time, maybe an owner used the credit button a bunch of times for testing, a number of things could make the meter unreliable. Not a very good way to determine worth, IMO.

60k may or may not be high, but does it matter? That game could have been overhauled recently for all he knows, whos to say the counter is even original?. It helps to know the history, but games dont have mileage like cars do, overall condition determines value.

60k does not seem too bad. For perspective, my Swimmer and Assault machines have about 55,000 plays each. So that seems to be about the average.

# of plays is irrelevant. If it's only got a couple thou because it was in a biker bar and the monitor kept getting caved in, then it's not as good a game as 60K in a place where they simply don't beat on stuff.

# of plays does tell you (if the controllers are original) that any wear items probably need to be addressed (for instance, after 60K, the trackball rollers WILL need replacement), but that's only one component of the overall machine.

Honestly, I think he's trying to come up with reasons to talk you down on price.

Sounds like a bargaining tactic.

10k is extremely low. Most 1-coin games I see are in the 25k-75k range. Some games are well over 100k or more, and those usually show it.

You also have to consider if it's a single token/quarter game (classics), or if it was initially set for $1 (Daytona). The coin clicks of course will be much higher on those later $1 games. You will probably find a lot of Daytonas with 200k, 300k or more on the counters.

I had a Silent Scope 2 that had almost 90k plays on it, and it actually was in nicer condition than the others I've seen on location.
