how many times have u seen games out for trash?

I found a working clean Berzerk and a clean non-working Battlezone sitting out front of a house together. Walked up and asked guy what he was doing with them and he said "either you are taking them home, or I'm taking them to the dump". Obviously they came home with me.

Once - a mint Space Invaders, which I couldn't take because I was visiting a friend 100 miles from home and had all the kids\stuff in the minivan.

I did briefly consider asking them all to wait at the friends house and go get it, but decided against it.

I have only dreamed of finding a free cab out in somebody's trash. Oh well, I guess the time will come eventually when I find a dedicated Major Havoc or Gravitar out on the curb! :)

I've only seen once game left out to rot, but it was outside an abandoned building instead of in the trash. The Asteroids had been rained on many times and had swollen way up all over. All the boards were gone, but I was able to grab the monitor - and it worked after a rebuild.

Other than that, the only cabs I see by the garbage are ones I put there:

Just one my Double Dragon that was this summer on a Saturday my friend calls me hey saw a game near the local mall. Me in my hangover stupor from Friday night rolled out of bed threw on my clothes took the seats out of the van since the truck wasn't there and drove like hell to pick it up. The board didn't work but I already had a spare working one form a bulk buy and threw it in there now it desperately needs a paint job.

Never seen a game out by the curb for trash.

The trash guys around here would let it sit there until it

turned to dust . They won't even take a tire that is off the

rim.

That is probably because tires are considered Hazardous waste. They cannot be put in the landfill with regular trash. They have to be separated at the landfill. There is usually a fee to dispose of them.

However i suppose your landfill could be different...

I saw some old school star wars game with a "yoke" like an airplane "steering wheel" but by the time I got back in 10 minutes there was a scrapper taking a crow bar to it it to "get the metal out"

I've seen 100's put out as trash and I'm the guy that did it! I worked for an op mid 80's to late 90's that had tons of useless crap in his building.... I couldnt give the stuff away so I had to trash it all.

I found a game that I had sold to someone set out for trash :)

Years ago, I had sold a Battlezone to a "first time game owner". About a year later, a person at work mentioned seeing an arcade game in a dumpster for an appartment complex nearby. I drove over at lunch to check it out, and it turned out to be the Battlezone I had sold (my notes were still on the tag on the boardset)! The monitor had failed (big shocker there), and the person must have lost my contact information or just not bothered to see if it could get fixed and threw it out when it broke.

I pulled it out of the dumpster, took it home, fixed it, cleaned it up, and sold it again a few weeks later.

You serious? That's a few folk's grail around here. Wow.... Was it a meth-head all tweaked out hissing at you when you inquired?

2 uprights and an old 1950's jukebox. Both uprights were jamma junk but good for parts. No boards. 1 monitor busted. BTW I always have a dolly in the back of my truck and tie down straps.

That one's drawer had been used as a litterbox - so much so that the wood was still damp a month later. I tried to seal it in with some Killz oil primer (see the white inside?) but could not get the smell to go away. I stripped it and stuck it out there, and told anybody who wanted it to go get it. It disappeared, but not sure where...

A little late to the thread...

I've found 2 uprights waiting for the trash man.

First was a Double Dragon 2 cab that had a busted up monitor. Found this one by a little league field (it had been in the snack section - my daughter played softball there so I saw it sitting inside, unworking, for a few years -- put an open frame VGA monitor in it, hacked up a dreamcast controller and had a poor mans naomi set up. Was a great set up until I sold the cab and the monitor over the summer.

Second cab was a Ms Pac, rescued her from the curb in front of a house in the ghetto. Wood was in poor condition, monitor worked, PCB didn't. Sent PCB off to channelmaniac for repairs. Later purchased a 60/1 PCB and lizardlick adapter and it is still sitting in the collection getting loads of play.

i have read many posts where folks have saved games from the trash. In my experience the only game i saw out at the curb was my kick game after i gutted it. There has never been a time when i saw one of these classic beauties out to walk the green mile. Maybe the folks where i am can't bring themselves to junk them either?
3

One I saved (Gravitar), One I ignored (trashed) and One I gutted (Condomania or such).

Never found one...but had a girl post on here one time offering a game for free that was right down the road. It was a golden axe...still have it wondering what to do with it.
